I Love Winter

We're in full swing for the Christmas season! The tree went up last weekend, the house is fully decorated (inside), we're going to make all of the Christmas treats next weekend (all ingredients have been purchased), 99% of the gifts are here and waiting to be wrapped (not looking forward to wrapping them, ugh), Christmas cards have been sent out, Christmas movies have been selected and we'll start watching them this weekend, and we're dropping off G's letter to Santa today at a local Santa drop spot in our neighborhood (pretty dang convenient if you ask me!)

In fact, I feel so on top of things that I actually took a nap this afternoon. Pria and I laid in the sun in our guestroom and soaked up the warm rays. I've been reminded (by social media of all things, shock!) that making time for yourself is a task that can't be ignored. So, even though I should have been doing laundry or cleaning the house, I opted to take an hour to rest. And in that hour, both kids filtered into the room and spent time with me and Pria, and even Scott came in and we chatted for a bit. It was lovely, and it needs to happen more often!

Did I mention that George is back? He showed up on December 1...I was getting a little worried that he had forgotten, but he must have gotten a reminder from one of his elf friends. Whew!

December 1
"Christmas is Here!"

December 2
"Christmas Shopping List"

December 3
"What should I draw next? An elf portrait?"

We've had a few winter storms this week, so the kids took advantage of the fluffy stuff (after helping to shovel) with a snowball fight and snow angels. Which then led into some hot chocolate...because it's the best way to get warm after playing in the snow!

G working hard...and getting dusted by snow from Ava! I love how the red and green lights from our house are captured in this snowy shot

Yum!

We even managed to squeeze in some non-Christmas fun...we took a family trip to the movies last weekend, G has been building forts in the family room, and Ava went back to The Bank and played in the pep band for the RHS football team's game for the 6A state championship (sadly, they did not win...but it's fantastic that they made it there!)

Where's the G??

It's going to be a very busy season, like always, but we're trying to slow down and have a few minutes of peace each day. I realized earlier today that I like winter. Like, actually enjoy it. It's not a season I suffer through...I look forward to it. I never thought I would feel that way, but there's something so beautiful about the snow, bright blue skies, and excitement of the season. (I may not feel the same way in March, but in early December, it's a different story, lol.)

What are you looking forward to the most during this holiday time?

Goodbye Sweet Spanky

This is a post that I'm not very excited to write.  As you probably know, our oldest dog, Spanky, had struggled with health issues (ear infections, seizures) his whole life, and recently, his health had severely deteriorated.  He hadn't been eating, his ear infection was so severe his face was swollen, he had a hard time getting up the stairs, and he very rarely wanted to play.  Last week we got a few tail wags from him, and he ate a few bowls of food, but it was a 50-50 chance that he would actually keep the food down. On Thursday, we made the decision that if he wasn't any better by this weekend, we were going to put him down.  I know Scott didn't want to make that decision as Spanky was a very special dog to him - he truly was his little buddy, following him around everywhere, wanting to be wherever Scott was, and howling his sadness whenever Scott would leave him. Throughout Friday night, it became clear that Spanky wasn't going to have a miraculous recovery...

Grandparents, Birthdays, and Sprinklers, Oh MY!

What a whirlwind week we've had...I was trying to get everything wrapped up at work so I could take my 5-day "furlough" from last Wednesday, through tomorrow. Wednesday was my first day at home, so Ava and I had a ton of "fun" getting everything ready for the upcoming activities. I did have a wonderful massage, so that started my vacation off very well... Gramma Karen and Grampa Doug drove in from KC on Wednesday afternoon. We had a great evening catching up, and enjoying the nice weather (until the downpour that happened right as they were leaving our house!) On Thursday, Scott, Dad, Mom, and I drove down to Cannon Falls and Rochester to check out the areas for potential future homes/land for us. At some point, we'd like to move south of the Cities. Ava was a very good little girl, especially considering that she was stuck in a car for most of her FIRST BIRTHDAY!!! We went to Applebee's for lunch, and the wait staff came out singing to someone else...I...

We're Baaaaack!

Wow, I can't believe it's been almost 3 weeks since I've posted anything.  But, let's be honest - it's been a busy few weeks.  Clearly, I wasn't busy taking photos, as I only have 3 to show on this post.  Let's recap what's been going on in the Goers' household: New siding for our house...!  This is a project that we've been talking about doing for years, and we finally found someone that had the right product and the right price.  Our house is no longer a light peach color, it's Tuscan Clay with white accents.  It looks so shiny and fresh!  Now, we just need to work on our monster of a garage... I was in Palm Springs for eight, verrrrrry loooooong days.  I was staffing a travel program for one of my favorite clients, so at least I liked who I was supporting while there.  I hadn't traveled for work since May 2007, and honestly, I don't miss it.  I guess everything changes once you have a kid.  I missed Ava like crazy, and kept...
