State Fair 2023

The end of summer is officially here (although, not by calendar standards, as G likes to point out.) The Minnesota State Fair 2023 kicked off on Thursday, and we were there to cheer on the RHSMB. Per tradition, they were the first band in the parade on the first day - what an honor! We're so used to long parades, that when the whole thing was past us in less than 15 minutes, it was a little shocking. Due to copyright issues, I can't post any video of the band online, but trust me, they were great! We ate the perfect amount of fair food that we weren't stuffed, and since it was opening day, it was a little less crowded than the weekends (which was a great thing for us.) G did so well this year, and didn't complain or beg for anything. Now that he's older, it's much easier to bring him places like this, and we can all enjoy it. We even managed to meet up with my friend Emilie who was there for a work event. It was great to catch up for a few minutes, and take a br

Turtles and Ducks

The summer is winding down, but our schedules are keeping full! Marching band is ramping up for the State Fair next week, and then the beginning of competition season. We were also reminded that the kids perform at home football games...oh yeah, totally forgot about that! It seems like such a secondary performance, but I know it gives them more chances to perform and practice in front of a crowd. They are looking good! We're not going to be able to make it to St Louis at the end of October for the BOA Super Regional, so instead, my mom, G, and I are going to head to Sioux Falls earlier in October to watch the Festival of Bands competition. G is super excited to go to a new state! I've added a few fun things to do to our list for the 2 days while we're there...I'm not sure any of us could sit through a full day of competition, so we're going to have to time our attendance for when Rosemount plays. G and I enjoyed TMNT on Sunday This past week also wrapped up our fina

Barbie!

Ava and I went to see the Barbie movie last weekend, and it was SO good! It was not the light and fluffy movie that you might think it would be...it had some very deep and emotional moments. I loved it! Our whole week has been centered on the RHS Band Garage Sale. Ava did collections last Saturday, I did them on Monday night during rehearsal, and then on Friday night, Ava and I both staffed areas of the sale. I almost gone run over as people pushed their way into the Accessories section...crazy! On Saturday morning, we worked another shift, and my mom joined us, as well. I went back to the Seasonal Goods section, and it was nice and peaceful. Busy, but not quite as chaotic! We walked away from it spending only $10, so I think we did very well. It'll be interesting to see how much money we raise this year. G spent the week at a traditional day camp with a few neighborhood friends. He swam, made a tye-dye shirt, canoed, and spent so much time outdoors. He came home dirty every night,

Leprechaun Days Parade 2023

After a long week of band camp, the RHSMB was ready to walk in the Leprechaun Days parade, bright and early on Saturday morning. They did a fantastic job, but by early afternoon, I could see that Ava was wilting and that she just needed to get home to rest. So, she and Scott walked home, while we (me, G, my parents, and my aunt) got root beer floats, and tried not to melt in the hot temps. Abigail, G, and his cousin, Oliver Just a few hours after we got home, our best friends came to town, and we all headed over to Leprechaun Days in Central Park. We snagged a few tables, and parked there for several hours. A bunch of neighborhood friends, and school friends filtered in and out of the evening, so there was a lot of chatting and enjoying more hot temps. And cheese curds. :) We made it home to watch fireworks, and enjoy a tiny bit of downtime before heading to bed. I think we were all pretty tired and ready to hit the hay by that point. This was yet another incredibly busy week. Ava had
