Thankful for it All

What a wonderful holiday weekend we've had so far! Last Saturday night, we went with a few neighbors to check out the tree lighting ceremony in downtown Rosemount. It had a quintessential small-town feel to it...a lovely tree, neighbors gathered on the lawn, a small speech by the mayor, a song or two by a few different choirs, and then we wrapped up with cider and cookies for all. The kids enjoyed it (Ava tolerated it, at best, lol) and it was neat to be taking part in a holiday tradition in town. I was on PTO on Wednesday, and spent most of the day running errands (Christmas shopping as well as Thanksgiving food pickup) and prepping to host turkey day. It was one of those super productive days where I was really tired by the end, and might have fallen asleep by 8:30pm. Ha! G was trying to be creepy here...he succeeded! Taking a break to play some Roblox I bought some amazing cookies at Crumbl...the line is usually out the door, but when I drove by on Wednesday, I spotted a rare op

Where's the Red-Nosed Reindeer?

Last Saturday was a very full day for all of us. Scott opted not to go hunting, so he scheduled some more side jobs for himself. In the meantime, I headed to downtown Minneapolis for a convention with a friend (and then lunch afterwards), and G was dropped off to play with his cousins. He had so much fun, and it was a great way to start his day! After I picked him up, we had a very short amount of time before he needed to be at Rockin' Jump for a birthday party. I have never seen it so busy there! I happily dropped him off and took Ava across the street to grab a late lunch at a bowling alley, and then she and I browsed through Target until it was time to pick up the little guy.  After such a busy day, I think we were all happy to get home and find quiet areas of the house where we could each relax. But not for long, as the next day, G and I were on the road again to see the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer musical at the Ames Center in Burnsville. The musical followed the original s

Gold Belts + Stripe!

The kiddos are moving on up in their belts in Taekwondo! This week they earned their first stripe for their gold belt. I was watching them test, and Ava did a fantastic job. G still has a few things he could work on, but it looks like he's trying, and when he receives direct instruction, he does pretty well. Overall, I love that they are still going every week (although G threatens to quit before each session) and it gives them an individual activity that they can work on, and try to constantly improve. It's been a really long week. COVID #s are spiking again, so we had to do a few tests this week (all were negative), but it seems like this is never going to end. Last weekend, G got his first shot for the kids vaccine, and on Thursday, I got my (Moderna) booster. G was super anxious, but did a great job with the shot (no side effects). I was a little nervous, and it wiped me out a bit for 24 hours. I ended up taking Friday afternoon off, and met Scott for lunch, did some errand

Happy Halloween!

I think we spent most of this week recovering from last weekend. We had multiple birthday celebrations, and a full (and very chilly) night of Trick or Treating. On Saturday night, both sets of grandparents came over and helped G celebrate turning 8! There was good conversation, a yummy, easy meal, and of course cake and ice cream...and gifts! It was so nice to see everyone and gather as a larger family. Ava and I surprised G with this Animal Crossing cake - and it was so good! Not sure what's up with his squinty eyes here, lol! We couldn't stay up too late on Saturday night, because we knew we'd have a late Sunday night of begging for candy from strangers. We had so much fun, though. The hardest part was to convince the kids that the chilly wind necessitated them to wear jackets under/with their costumes. Neither kid really wanted to, but after some real world exposure to the chilliness, the older one changed her mind and put on a coat. The younger one was on board once he
