It Feels a Little Bit Like Summer...!

The grass and trees are green, the sky is blue, and the air is pleasant...it sure does seem like the warmer weather is here to stay! I love how bright and shiny everything is this time of year. PLUS, we're nearing the end of Maycember, so we'll be able to ease into the summer routine shortly. There are only SEVEN days of school left - yippee! It was surprisingly quiet on the activity front this past week. G had a water park birthday party on Sunday afternoon, and then we headed over to book club. Monday was the normal swimming lesson for G, Tuesday was a late night deployment for my job, Wednesday was Ava's final 9th grade band concert, and Thursday and Friday were plan-free. Nights like that are a blessing! Ava received an Honor Letter in Band - congrats! In addition, I took Friday off of work and had a Dee-Day. It was fantastic! I got so much stuff done, and even had time to relax in the sun/shade with a book, while Pria laid about the front lawn. Scott had to replace a p

We're definitely in Maycember. We stacked multiple activities on top of each other this past week, so by the time we got to Friday night, we mostly just laid around and took it easy. Ava and I binged a series on Netflix for several hours. She eventually said she needed to go to bed! It's been a quiet day at home for me on this beautiful Saturday morning. Scott took both kids with him on a sod-laying job (which is why Ava wanted to be well-rested!) It's amazing how peaceful and easy it has been to get stuff done today without anyone else here. I know that will be reality in the not-so-far-off-future, so I don't ever want to wish away my days with the kids at home, but man, it was really nice to have that down time. One of the fun events that we attended this week was the Red Pine Spring Art Night. This is an annual event that was discontinued during COVID, and I'm so happy they brought it back. It's different than it was before (previously there was an auction wh

Academic Superstar!

This week we were able to celebrate Ava earning her first Academic letter at RHS! We are so proud of how hard she has worked this year to maintain her good grades. Scott needed to stand during the ceremony, so he peeked out behind us for this pic :) Had to pull out my FCHS letter jacket to show Ava what I had earned, way back in the day! So very proud that she didn't trip or fall at any point during this walk across the stage!  Ava also started the new season of marching band practice this week, so she was able to reconnect with friends from last season, and met the incoming 9th grade trumpets who seem to be really nice. (There are only three new ones, which is such a small number!)  G is still struggling with seasonal allergies, so we're hoping that this new growth season passes soon, so his poor eyes can get a break. Pria really likes to sleep. Like, a lot. She's such a happy and good dog! This weekend I will be spending time with my mom, while Scott visits with his mom.

Music Program - Finally!

Due to the pandemic, G has never had a music program at school. Tuesday night was finally the third graders time to shine! G had been a little apprehensive about performing, and didn't want to do it, but after performing a few times for the school early this week, he was SO excited to sing for us on Tuesday night. All of the grandparents joined us, and we had a blast listening to their little voices projecting out over the gym. It had been a really long time since we had sat through a performance in the Red Pine gym, and I'm so happy that we had a chance to (he's been there 4 years!) G was also really excited to show off one of the art pieces they worked on recently. It's in one of the display cases near the front door. Can you tell what it is? Here's a hint...he was SO excited to see it when we went to California, but the rain prevented us from reading this famous sign... We decided to venture out for a Mexican dinner on Cinco de Mayo. Never again - it was chaos!
