Nibbles, Standing, and Britax!

It's been a very busy week - after all of the initial excitement at the beginning of the week, I would have thought that things would have slowed down some. Wednesday night was probably THE worst night we have had with Ava since we brought her home. For some reason, she couldn't stay asleep. We think she may have slept a total of 3 hours that night. The rest of the time she wanted us to be up with her...playing, talking, rocking, whatever she could think of. Needless to say, both Scott and I were very tired on Thursday. So I went to pick her up after my exhausted day at work, and what do I see on her cheek? A bite mark from one of the little girls at daycare! I know she didn't mean for it to happen, and in fact, the little girl cried more than Ava did, but I still felt bad for our little peanut. After the girl bit her, Ava cried a little, and then smacked her away. I think we were both a little happy to hear she was defending herself - even though we won't encourage hit

Ava is OK!

Last night we took Ava in for her 2nd flu shot, as well as another round of vaccines. She did great - just a little crying after the shot, but she calmed down almost right away. And, she even slept well last night. That probably had more to do with the fact that she only got a 1.5 hour nap yesterday! This afternoon we took her to Children's Hospital in St Paul for her follow-up with the cardiologist. Much to our relief, he said that she is doing great! He wasn't able to hear the murmur, which is exactly what we wanted. If she ever participates in sports, she will not need to note this as an abnormality. Yay, she's healthy! Well, except for her cold. But, we'll take that any day over a heart condition. :)

Zoo Song Stuck in Head...Arghh....

"You'll see lots of animals when you're at the zoo! Monkeys, zebras, elephants...lions, tigers, too!" Why do toy makers have to make those songs so darn catchy? Not only am I singing that song, but I'm finding myself singing made up songs to Ava in the same tune! It's a great toy from Fisher-Price, but boy, talk about driving us nuts! Well, I'm 99% healed from bronchitis, but now Ava has a cold. We just can't win here...although Scott has somehow managed to squeak by without getting sick. Ava has her 2nd part of the flu shot tomorrow night, so we will probably have an updated weight for her. Let's see how much this little piggy weighs now! She's loving the fruits so far - applesauce and peaches have been a hit! She also has her 6 month follow up with the cardiologist on Tuesday - we're sure everything will be ok, but just in case, keep her in your prayers! Ava's been sleeping hard at night, and I love seeing her little sleepy face in th

So long bronchitis!

My cold that I've had since Christmas developed into bronchitis, so with much prodding, I finally went to the doctor, and she prescribed some meds for me. I'm on the road to recovery! My hacking isn't keeping Scott, the dogs, or me up all night anymore - Ava was the only one getting a decent night's sleep! And I actually feel more like myself than I have in several weeks, thank goodness! So that means I have energy to post to the blog...let's see, what's new? Ava has started to crawl - granted, it's not a quick crawl, but she's still getting the hang of it. Tonight she managed to scoot around her room with her little naked butt up in the air (I had just given her a bath, and she is really resisting diapering these days. :( ) She has tried all of the veggies, and seems to like them all. YIPPEE! With that under our belt, we moved onto fruits this morning...she made the oddest face when she got a mouthful of applesauce. And then she couldn't get e

Green Beans are Yummy!

We gave Ava her first non-orange veggie tonight...green beans! They went over very well, so I'm hoping that we have an easy eater on our hands. She has liked everything she has tried so far - once she figured out how to eat solid food. She's also learning how to blow raspberries. Not so pretty. What happens when you mix a spoonful of green beans with a fresh, bubbly raspberry? See the video below for the answer... I see messy, messy mealtimes in our future...!

Happy New Year!

Last night we experienced a very calm New Year's - it was a nice change from years past where things got a little crazy! Ava went off on her first overnight to Grandma Deb's house - thank goodness she was a perfect angel the whole time. When we got home last night, the house felt very empty without her there, and our bedroom was so quiet without the monitor on. We were very happy to pick her up this morning, but we're pleased to know that she did so well at Grandma's house! As for Scooty and me, we went to Tiffany and Darren's house, and rang in the new year with them, as well as Megan and Erik. We ate some yummy snacks, played a few games, and just had fun catching up since the holidays have been so busy. PLUS, we hadn't seen Megan and Erik in forever since they moved out west of the cities. Scott, me, and MGD Darren and Tiff Erik and Megan Hope 2009 is off to a great start for you and your loved ones!
