Week 10 at Home: Bar Time

The good news for the week is that we found bar stools for our new bar, and furniture for the family room in the basement. The somewhat bad news is that we don't know when we'll receive it. We received two of the four bar stools already, and I'm waiting to hear back from the company on when the other two will be shipped out (I'm not sure why they didn't just send them all at the same time??) The furniture may take 2-6 weeks to be sent/delivered, so for now, we're using the bar stools and the ground as our best seating options, lol. We installed some strip lighting under the bar counter top last weekend - it's so bright! Two new barstools! Scott's been busy working this weekend on building floating shelves for another part of the wall in the basement. I'm not exactly sure how his vision will turn out, but he's put a lot of time into it, so I'm anxious to see what the final result is. Ava had a pretty good week...like always,

Week 9 at Home: A Rough Time

It hit me this week that for the last 2 months, I have been a hands-on mom, 24/7. There's no time for breaks over lunch, no decompression on my commute to/from work, and no time the kids are away for a bit playing at someone's house. It has been non-stop, with one exception. Ironically, that exception took place on Mother's Day. After I celebrated being a mom with my kids, I was able to get away for several hours, and focus on being a daughter. I spent a full afternoon with my parents. And it was lovely. It was quiet, there was adult-only conversation, and it was a chance to catch up with two people who I love more than anything in the world. That break gave me a chance to relax and refill my bucket so I could come home and be a better mom and wife to my family. I really needed that break. G left this little note for me in the guest room on Mother's Day! My new Columbine plant... almost as pretty as the Rocky Mountain Columbine (the Colorado state flow

Week 8 at Home: Chaos!

Over the last few weeks, my workload has increased quite a bit. I'm finding that I am in so many meetings during the day that I can't get to my work, plus I still have to act as G's Kindergarten teacher all day long. It's getting very difficult to manage everything and I'm beginning to feel a bit panicked that I can't handle it all.  This coming Monday, I'm in meetings 9-4, with no break for lunch. G and I devised a plan that we would try to get his schoolwork underway around 7am, and then anything remaining that he needs help with (which is everything) will have to be done on Monday night. My mental health is not faring well right now, and that worries me. But, on the bright side, Ava is doing really well in school. She continues to keep on top of her classes and is getting great grades. She's participating in her anime class, even though I still have to push her a bit to post her drawings so the teacher can review them. We're hoping to hear

Week 7 at Home: So Many Packages...

Since I've been working home for many weeks now, I've noticed that we have a LOT of delivery drivers in our neighborhood. We have Fed Ex, UPS, Amazon, SpeeDee, etc. come through so many times a day. On ONE day last week, I ended up having 5 separate deliveries. It got to the point I was a little embarrassed, lol. Plus, any packages that are delivered have to go through a "cooling off" period, so they sit by the front door for at least 24 hours. Makes it hard to quickly put things away before other members of the family notice the influx of shipments coming our way. I generally only pick up stuff from Target every few weeks, so I guess I'm finding other ways of making sure we support the economy...right? G had a pretty good week. Out of the 21 chicks that have been in incubation at his teacher's house, 19 hatched! The two that didn't were never fertilized, so we felt okay about that. But then sad news...one of the little chicks got stepped on by the
