Fall Craziness

Last Saturday was a very full day with the RHS Marching Band Festival. There were thousands of people who descended on our high school and downtown area. My mom and I put in our shift at the volunteer table, and then we left before all of the really fun stuff started. By watching social media, we were able to keep track of the 22+ bands who played, and then I was able to pick up Ava once things eased up with the parking situation. It seems like it was a really great night, and everyone was impressed with how well our event was managed. Way to go, band parents! The rest of the week is a blur with everything that we had scheduled. There was parent orientation at RHS, swimming, dinner with friends, marching band rehearsals, a football game, school, work, etc. It was non-stop! In fact, it was so busy I didn't even take any fun pictures.  I'm hopeful that the coming week is a little more manageable, and we all get a chance to relax a bit. On Friday night, we were all home for dinner

Our Friday Night Lights

Typically, "Friday Night Lights" refers to high school football, right? Our interaction with stadiums are just a bit different. It's marching band season, so we spend a lot of time in the stadiums where music is the main show. Last Saturday night, the RHSMB took first in their class (AAA) at the Eastview competition. It was their first competition of the season, and removing the weather-induced technical glitches (FYI, electronics and rain don't mix well) the show was great, and the band members were pleased. We had so much fun cheering the kids on! And this past Friday, I picked up Ava (and Abby) after their rehearsal ended at 9pm. The steam/fog was rising from the field, and it was a bit cold and damp. It seems that fall (and the spooky season) are right around the corner. This is such a neat time of year, and I'm so grateful that I get to be immersed in one of the best marching band programs in the state (and region, to be honest.) RHS also hosted a huge marchi

Time for School, Part 2!

This week was G's turn to head back to school. We have a 4th grader! He has friends in the class, likes his teacher (even though she's one of the strictest ones in the school, haha), and is getting used to a new bus driver (our previous AMAZING driver had to take a new route...boo.)  G's had a pretty good week in school, capped off with a fun back-to-school event on Friday night. You could tell all of the kids had a long week, as there was some heightened emotions while on the playground that night (not G, interestingly enough...he was totally chill and havin' fun!) We spent the last day of "summer vacation" (Labor Day) relaxing around the house, and also getting a final swim in at the neighborhood pool. Due to our recent high temps, they opted to keep it open an extra week, so it's shutting down for the season on Sunday. Ava's second week of school went well. They've performed at two football games, and are in their first competition this evening,

Time for School!

RHS started up again this week, so Ava officially began sophomore year! The first day of school is a half day for grades 10-12, as they allow just the 9th graders in the building for the morning, so they can get used to it before the older kids join in. What that means is that the first day for the older kids isn't much of a school day...they have lunch, advisory, and meetings. No real classes. The second day was a full day of school, but it was also picture day, and safety day, which means there were fire drills, tornado drills, and overall safety reviews. I know it was an adjustment to start school before Labor Day, but honestly, it's not too heavy in the traditional education that first 1.5 days. TBD for future career! G finished up his Summer Power program, and we've turned our focus to his first day of 4th grade, which will be on Tuesday. He went in for his reading assessment with his new teacher, and sailed through it with flying colors. He's reading at the level
