Twinsies!

The kids had a four-day school week which was fantastic for them...but Scott and I hauled ourselves off to work on Monday and left them to do their fun things all day long. Ava is able to stay at home by herself so she managed to enjoy the nice, quiet house on Monday. After five days off of school (including the weekend) I wasn't sure if she was looking forward to going back on Tuesday, but I do think she's always happy to see her friends. Plus, on Thursday, the 6th grade class had a fun after-school field trip of going to Grand Slam (a local, indoor amusement center, with laser tag, mini golf, batting cages, an arcade, etc.) She had a blast hanging out and playing games. It also meant that Scott had to pick up G at the bus stop since our regular baby-sitter was off playing with friends. :) G also had a good week...no issues at school that we were made of aware of. On Monday, he took a fun field trip to The Works (interactive children's museum that focuses on technology

Happy Valentine's Day!

The kids had a nice short week...they were in school for three days, and then had two days off of school. I stayed at home on Thursday and tried to take the kids to their 8am dentist appointment (failure due to the dentist being out sick) and then I ran to a Dr appointment for me, and then also to G's school conference. AND, still managed to work 4 hours on Thursday. I was exhausted by the end of the day on Thursday and took a nice nap in front of the fireplace before dinner. :) Ava's conferences were on Wednesday night, and just like last time, she's doing great! Her teachers love her, and her grades are wonderful (minus Reading, but she is going to re-work a group project which will bring her B up a bit higher.) We made a quick stop at the book fair in the school and she was able to pick up a new Dork Diaries book that she wanted. G's conferences were enlightening...the assistant principal and the school psychologist joined Scott and me, and we had a nice group ch

Do You Want to Build Jeffy the Snowmannnnnn?

The weather was so beautiful and snowy last Sunday that I felt compelled to get G out of the house to soak in some sunshine. Let's set the stage...it was Groundhog Day and Phil did NOT see his shadow (hooray!) There were bright blue skies, an air temp of 42 degrees, and a wind chill of 34 degrees...all in all, not a horrible February day in Minnesota. We've certainly seen worse! We trekked over to the neighborhood park, and slogged through the slushy, yet crunchy, snow of the parking lot to the play area. G explored the forgotten play equipment, and he made the tiniest snowman imaginable. Seriously. It was a snowball. He was saving all of his snowman-making skills for the adventure that was waiting back at home. Scott had promised him they would build a big snowman once we got back from the park. And so they did! Even Ava joined in the fun (I was so happy to see her come out of the house and have some outside activity time.) There was some debate over his name

Yessssss....Early Spring!

We heard that the groundhog didn't see his shadow this morning...hooray! It certainly feels like it might be an early spring this year. Last week someone mentioned that it's almost February, and I was struck by the fact that the kids haven't had any school closures (yet) due to the snow or super cold days. So far this has been a pretty mild winter. I don't want to jinx it, but after last year's polar vortex and super snowy days, this is a blessing. In fact, it's going to be in the 40's today! What?! We've been told that all of the snow won't melt, but maybe it'll help thaw the ground a bit, The kids had fun at school this week...Ava went skiing for the first time on Tuesday (full day field trip with all 6th graders) and she loved it! She wants to go again, so...now we have to figure that out. :) Even though I'm from Colorado, I am not a skier. And Scott hasn't been skiing in years, so...one of us will need to get back on the skis and gi
