Summer 2021: More Sun, Less COVID

One of my co-workers said that he was hoping that this summer is "more sun, less COVID" and I think he captured everyone's sentiments precisely. So far, we're definitely having more sun (pant, pant, it's been super hot lately), and COVID seems to be diminishing around us, as well. Ava went in for her 2nd shot this week (no side effects so far), so I'm very pleased that she will be fully vaxxed in a few short weeks.

Other than the fighting off the sweltering heat and pandemic, how was your week? Ours was pretty good! G wrapped up his 1st grade year successfully. He is so excited to be a 2nd grader! They had a wonderful last few days of school, filled with PJ day, sports day, board game day, beach day, and yearbook signing day. He said he was sad he wouldn't be going back next week, but I'm sure he'll get over it. In fact, he's probably over it now.

Oh wait, I just asked and he said he wasn't over it. Sigh. That kid.

Look at this cute card he made for his teacher! I love that he's wearing a top hat.

On the last day of school he was invited to a neighbor's house for an end of year party. There was a slip-n-slide, snacks, and all sorts of fun to be had. We only stayed for a bit as we had plans to head out to Carbone's for a family dinner...G's choice! He's been pretty good for the remainder of the week, and hasn't been interrupting me too much when I'm on work calls. He came into our bedroom on Thursday night at 2:30am and scared me. I screamed and then never got back to sleep. I'm tired. :)

He napped for over an hour on Wednesday afternoon. It made me wonder how he gets through school without naps! (His lips are blue because he had a blue raspberry ring pop. Scott was a bit concerned when I texted him this picture...)

Ava also had a good week, but she had to go to classes for all five days. Friday was her last day, and while she opted not to go to the 7th grade yearbook signing party, we did stop by and pick up her yearbook. She even ran into a friend while she was at the school, so that was a little bonus surprise.

Ava and I ended up going to a movie last Sunday afternoon, and while the storyline was pretty good, there were SO many glitches with the film, that we ended up staying an extra 30 min in the theater while they rebooted and tried to fix things. Due to those issues, we now have a free movie ticket to use at some point in the future.

Imagine listening/watching this non-stop for several minutes...

I opted to take Friday afternoon off and the kids and I went to the Dollar Store (that's a dangerous store...so many hidden treasures there), Arby's, and then Cub. Ava picked out her birthday cake, and I think we're in for a treat when we pick it up next Friday. Now, THAT kid. LOL

Speaking of birthdays, G and I visited my mom on Thursday (I took a late lunch...and Ava was in class so she couldn't come) since it was her birthday. It was nice to be able to chat for a bit and wish her a happy birthday in person. I'm so glad that family is now all back in a short driving distance so we can see each other on a regular basis.

On Saturday, my dad and Scott worked on the railings for our 2nd deck...it's coming together nicely! Can't wait till it's all done. While the guys were working on that, my mom and I enjoyed watching Ava in her duet baton competition. Luckily it wasn't too hot inside the building. We were reminiscing on how hot one of her summer performances was a few years ago...a ton of people inside an un-air conditioned gym, on a hot July day. UGH.

Next week starts the Y summer programs for both kiddos. I'm so happy that they'll be getting out of the house, interacting with other kids, and giving me some time to enjoy being home alone. I cannot wait for this change in schedule!

Snuggly Warm

It's the time of year to be cozy, so there's nothing better than sitting in front of a warm fire, reading a good book/watching a good show, and enjoying the glow of the Christmas tree. Even Pria thinks so! Pria was avoiding the vacuum earlier this week...she loves to be on Ava's bed! Getting cozy inside of a little fortress After a fairly busy week at school, work, and extracurricular activities, we all enjoyed a night at home on Friday. G and I built gingerbread houses (they both look a little sad, but we had fun), and then we all played Tractoropoly for a few hours. Turns out that G was stockpiling money, so we need to figure out his secret on how to save! Love Ava's face and hand placement here And we can't forget all of the treats that George brought this week! Sunday, December 10 "Can you get a bullseye?" Monday, December 11 "I'm brining Christmas Cheer, by singing loud for everyone to hear!" Tuesday, December 12 "Don't be the o

Barbie & George

We had a fun week to wrap up November. Last Saturday, Scott and I enjoyed a nice dinner out, and then a spontaneous trip to Home Depot...and we got some new exterior Christmas décor! But more important was the time spent together. Plus, it started to snow, so the view from the restaurant was beautiful (but the drive home was a little sketchy.) On Tuesday night, Ava and I headed out to the Mall of America to experience the Malibu Barbie Café. We had a blast exploring the area, eating the yummy food, and then shopping for a bit. It was a wonderful night evening spent together. Even the drinks were pretty! My Avocado Toast & salad Ava's Paradise Pancakes On Friday night, my book club gathered for our holiday party and it was a blast! We had such a good time chatting, eating, drinking, and finished off the night with a book exchange. I cherish and deeply appreciate the friendships that have developed with my neighbors because of this book club. And to really kick off the holiday se

26 Hours in a Day

Just yesterday morning, I was thinking to myself that I could really use a few more hours each day.  We don't sleep a whole lot, both work long hours at our jobs, try to play with Ava as much as we can at night and on the weekends, and then we have to do all of the adult-stuff...paying bills, grocery shopping, cleaning, work on side jobs, house projects, etc.  If there were only 26 hours in a day, we could: *Sleep just an extra 30 minutes - we need it since the dogs have been waking us up each weekend day at 5:30am.  What could be SO urgent that they need to get us up then?!?  You'd think we only feed them once a week, or something. *Spend an extra hour with Ava...we could go to the park every night, take an extra long bath, read a few extra stories, and just enjoy the giggles and chattiness. *Take 30 minutes to talk to each other about how things are going.  With Scott leaving for work each day before 5am, and then all of the craziness that ensues when I get home at nigh
