Easter 2024

This week was a tough re-entry back into school and work. We hit the ground running, and didn't get a chance to stop until Friday evening. Even though we had minimal activities each evening, we were still running errands, and eating later at night, so there wasn't a lot of time to chill between dinner and bed.

I was in the office two days this week for full-day meetings, and MAN, that was exhausting. I'm not used to being around people that much anymore. I can't believe that used to be the norm! I am very grateful to be working at a company where they allowed us to make the decision to stay at home permanently. I need the time during the day to be just with my Pria, and my coworkers (online.)

That aside, we had a great Easter! The kids happily participated in the Easter egg hunt, and then quickly worked their way through the scavenger hunt. G was really, super, extra egg-cited when we found the final gift...the Meta Quest 2! He's been having a blast this week playing Gorilla Tag, Walk the Plank, and the Epic Rollercoaster ride. It's been making him work up a sweat (which means he sleeps well at night!)

We also hosted my parents and Scott's mom for Easter dinner. This family time was a fantastic way to wrap up a long Spring Break/vacation. Grateful that we live close enough to do this on a somewhat regular basis.

It's gorgeous outside right now...mid-50's and sunny. We've got the final round of the RHSMB fundraiser this week (the one that I'm leading) and I am crossing all the fingers and toes for good weather, since the distribution of pizzas takes place in the HS parking lot!

Goodbye Sweet Spanky

This is a post that I'm not very excited to write.  As you probably know, our oldest dog, Spanky, had struggled with health issues (ear infections, seizures) his whole life, and recently, his health had severely deteriorated.  He hadn't been eating, his ear infection was so severe his face was swollen, he had a hard time getting up the stairs, and he very rarely wanted to play.  Last week we got a few tail wags from him, and he ate a few bowls of food, but it was a 50-50 chance that he would actually keep the food down. On Thursday, we made the decision that if he wasn't any better by this weekend, we were going to put him down.  I know Scott didn't want to make that decision as Spanky was a very special dog to him - he truly was his little buddy, following him around everywhere, wanting to be wherever Scott was, and howling his sadness whenever Scott would leave him. Throughout Friday night, it became clear that Spanky wasn't going to have a miraculous recovery...

Grandparents, Birthdays, and Sprinklers, Oh MY!

What a whirlwind week we've had...I was trying to get everything wrapped up at work so I could take my 5-day "furlough" from last Wednesday, through tomorrow. Wednesday was my first day at home, so Ava and I had a ton of "fun" getting everything ready for the upcoming activities. I did have a wonderful massage, so that started my vacation off very well... Gramma Karen and Grampa Doug drove in from KC on Wednesday afternoon. We had a great evening catching up, and enjoying the nice weather (until the downpour that happened right as they were leaving our house!) On Thursday, Scott, Dad, Mom, and I drove down to Cannon Falls and Rochester to check out the areas for potential future homes/land for us. At some point, we'd like to move south of the Cities. Ava was a very good little girl, especially considering that she was stuck in a car for most of her FIRST BIRTHDAY!!! We went to Applebee's for lunch, and the wait staff came out singing to someone else...I...

Happily Ever After?

Lately, I've been adding to the Disney Princess movies in our collection.  Last week I bought Beauty and the Beast for Ava.  That was never a favorite movie of mine, but now that I've seen it several times in the last week, it's growing on me.  I figure this is a good chance for me to catch up on some of the stories that I missed out on! Watching all of these princess movies has me thinking about fairy tales...why is it that it's always the evil stepMOTHER?  Or the mom is dead, and no one has taken her place?  Very rarely is it the father who is evil, or dead.  This has actually come up as a topic in more than one conversation lately, and has me a bit intrigued.  Fairy tales are often not very happy - and usually someone dies at some point.  I was a giving an overview of Snow White to a friend of mine, and as I was going through the story, both of us were horrified at the message - mom dies, evil stepmother wants to murder her pretty stepdaugh...
