Last Week of School & Work 2023!

We just wrapped up the final school and work (for Dee) week of 2023! The kids both had spirit week/dress up days this past week, and there were fun parties for G, and a holiday assembly for Ava. Kirk Cousins (Vikings QB) was the surprise guest speaker at RHS this week. Ava doesn't really follow football, so when she texted me a few pics during the assembly, she said "The one guy is here. Football" Hahahaha! She mentioned she heard a rumor that SpongeBob was going to be there, but alas, just a pro football player. What a neat surprise for the kids (except for Ava, lol)

I had a few fun events this past week, as well. We had a happy hour/celebration for a completed project at work on Tuesday night, and then my neighbors/book club headed out to the local winery for a cookie decorating event on Thursday evening. I'm happy we don't have a full calendar next week!

Swimming was unexpectedly cancelled on Monday, which was A-OK with us. G has some congestion, so I was going to keep him at home anyways. It's no fun trying to swim with a stuffy nose. It allowed us a more leisurely night with just TKD as the activity.

G's purple belt finally came!

4th stripe on the green belt!

I am taking the week off between Christmas and New Years, and I am very, very excited for it. I really need this downtime to focus on the home and family, and to decompress from the last several months of work. Scott will be working 4 days next week, so no long vacay for him.

George has been a very busy elf, and I'm not sure how he's going to top himself next year!

Sunday, December 17

"Care for a cup of tea?"

Ava really liked this tea set, so she took this...good thing G had no interest in this!

Monday, December 18

"Can you get a hole in one?"

This is so cute...the windmill is a wind-up toy so it spins to make it more difficult to get the ball through

Tuesday, December 19

"Racing towards Christmas!"

For someone who had a massive fear of balloons when he was little, G grabbed this one and took it up to his room, right away!

Wednesday, December 20

"Helping Santa hang Christmas lights is hard work!"

The little lights wrapped around George were perfect...

Thursday, December 21

"Rockin' around the Christmas tree"

...to hang on the larger tree!

Friday, December 22

"My elf curling style is 'merry and bright'!"

This little curling set was a ton of fun to play with...the stones slide so well!

Saturday, December 23

"DONUT you know how much I love you!"

George will only be visiting us for one more night (Sunday), as then he flies home with Santa on Christmas Eve. He was such a fun elf this year, and G loved seeing what he was going to be doing each day!

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Goodbye Sweet Spanky

This is a post that I'm not very excited to write.  As you probably know, our oldest dog, Spanky, had struggled with health issues (ear infections, seizures) his whole life, and recently, his health had severely deteriorated.  He hadn't been eating, his ear infection was so severe his face was swollen, he had a hard time getting up the stairs, and he very rarely wanted to play.  Last week we got a few tail wags from him, and he ate a few bowls of food, but it was a 50-50 chance that he would actually keep the food down. On Thursday, we made the decision that if he wasn't any better by this weekend, we were going to put him down.  I know Scott didn't want to make that decision as Spanky was a very special dog to him - he truly was his little buddy, following him around everywhere, wanting to be wherever Scott was, and howling his sadness whenever Scott would leave him. Throughout Friday night, it became clear that Spanky wasn't going to have a miraculous recovery...

Grandparents, Birthdays, and Sprinklers, Oh MY!

What a whirlwind week we've had...I was trying to get everything wrapped up at work so I could take my 5-day "furlough" from last Wednesday, through tomorrow. Wednesday was my first day at home, so Ava and I had a ton of "fun" getting everything ready for the upcoming activities. I did have a wonderful massage, so that started my vacation off very well... Gramma Karen and Grampa Doug drove in from KC on Wednesday afternoon. We had a great evening catching up, and enjoying the nice weather (until the downpour that happened right as they were leaving our house!) On Thursday, Scott, Dad, Mom, and I drove down to Cannon Falls and Rochester to check out the areas for potential future homes/land for us. At some point, we'd like to move south of the Cities. Ava was a very good little girl, especially considering that she was stuck in a car for most of her FIRST BIRTHDAY!!! We went to Applebee's for lunch, and the wait staff came out singing to someone else...I...

The Early Bird

I realized that I skipped a chunk of pictures that I wanted to share...things were super busy last weekend, so we'll blame my lapse of memory on that! The focus was so much on Ava's party, that I neglected to share the family birthday photos, too. Two weeks ago, we invited all of the grandparents over for a wonderful dinner of smoked prime rib (and other yummy sides), and then topped it off with a raspberry mojito birthday cake for the newly minted eight-year-old. We like to experiment with different birthday cake flavors for her birthday, and this one was MUCH better than the watermelon cake from last year (gross-gross-gross!)      Saying cheese with Grandpa Doug! G and I took a break from the present pics to take some selfies ;) Even his cars made an appearance! Super excited to be receiving an aquascope! And no birthday is complete without something from American Girl - this time is was a pizza party set - awesome! We have also...
