#8 on the 8th!

What a great week we had! The weather was beautiful for G's Boosterthon Fun Run on Monday morning. He was a little hesitant to run, but I told him he could walk and hang out with friends...plus the laps aren't super long. Each kid ran/walked approximately 35 laps. It was a wonderful way to get some fresh air and exercise for the kiddos!

A big thank you to everyone who donated...Red Pine met their fundraising goal, and G's classroom raised the most of ANY classroom in the entire school!

Ava also received a long awaited-package in the mail...her new roller skates! She paid for them with her own money, and has really enjoyed getting outside and practicing. We're thrilled to see her take the initiative and get out to get exercise, especially since she really seems to enjoy it. And frankly, these skates are just fun to look at!

Wednesday night was the designated night to carve pumpkins as a family, and then play the Universal Yums candy game. We had fun playing "trick" or "treat" with the intent of trying to fool our family members if we liked/didn't like the candy we chose. The least favorite, by far, was the salty licorice balls. SO gross!

Friday was a super big day for both of our kiddos! G turned EIGHT! He was born at 7:25am CT, and that's just about the time I drop him off at school, so it was really neat to be able to hug him and wish him a happy birthday at the exact time he was born. Our closing time baby (Ava...born at 1:59am may/may not ever get that experience. Maybe when she's in college??)

G had a super awesome day at school...he and his friend Isaac share the same birthday, so Isaac got to sit in the birthday chair on Thursday, and G got to sit in it on Friday (I love that they worked that out together, and came up with a solution that everyone was happy with.) Plus, they had their Harvest Party on Friday, so he was able to wear his Halloween costume while he celebrated.

We had a little celebration at home with the Jack-O pizza from Papa Murphy's, a special cupcake just for him, and gifts! Then he was able to choose the movie to watch and we snuggled for the rest of the night. And if that wasn't enough...he lost tooth #8 on Friday night, too! #8 on his 8th birthday - perfect!

The last pic of him as a 7-year old...

And now he's eight!

New hole in mouth, ha!

Ava was at home for most of the birthday celebration, but after dinner, she headed out with some friends (and a set of parents) to her very first high school football game. I was a little nervous because the HOCO game a few weeks ago had some incidents, and I didn't want to Ava to get into any trouble. But, they had a blast, and as a bonus, she was able to wear a Halloween costume since it was a dress-up game. She wore her unicorn onesie from a few years ago...and lent her witches hat and cloak to a friend. It's SO great seeing her being social and getting out with people again. I was happy to have her home and safe with me last year during digital school, but she needed to get back to spending time with her friends.

Last Saturday I met up with a friend, and we did a 5k walk at a winery in Wisconsin. We've been blessed with really great weather lately, and it was a perfect fall day to walk through a vineyard...and drink wine at the end!

Scott's had another busy week, too....lots of work to do! We're looking forward to spending time with our extended family on Saturday night to celebrate G, and also hanging out with the kids/neighbors for Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

Goodbye Sweet Spanky

This is a post that I'm not very excited to write.  As you probably know, our oldest dog, Spanky, had struggled with health issues (ear infections, seizures) his whole life, and recently, his health had severely deteriorated.  He hadn't been eating, his ear infection was so severe his face was swollen, he had a hard time getting up the stairs, and he very rarely wanted to play.  Last week we got a few tail wags from him, and he ate a few bowls of food, but it was a 50-50 chance that he would actually keep the food down. On Thursday, we made the decision that if he wasn't any better by this weekend, we were going to put him down.  I know Scott didn't want to make that decision as Spanky was a very special dog to him - he truly was his little buddy, following him around everywhere, wanting to be wherever Scott was, and howling his sadness whenever Scott would leave him. Throughout Friday night, it became clear that Spanky wasn't going to have a miraculous recovery...

Grandparents, Birthdays, and Sprinklers, Oh MY!

What a whirlwind week we've had...I was trying to get everything wrapped up at work so I could take my 5-day "furlough" from last Wednesday, through tomorrow. Wednesday was my first day at home, so Ava and I had a ton of "fun" getting everything ready for the upcoming activities. I did have a wonderful massage, so that started my vacation off very well... Gramma Karen and Grampa Doug drove in from KC on Wednesday afternoon. We had a great evening catching up, and enjoying the nice weather (until the downpour that happened right as they were leaving our house!) On Thursday, Scott, Dad, Mom, and I drove down to Cannon Falls and Rochester to check out the areas for potential future homes/land for us. At some point, we'd like to move south of the Cities. Ava was a very good little girl, especially considering that she was stuck in a car for most of her FIRST BIRTHDAY!!! We went to Applebee's for lunch, and the wait staff came out singing to someone else...I...

We're Baaaaack!

Wow, I can't believe it's been almost 3 weeks since I've posted anything.  But, let's be honest - it's been a busy few weeks.  Clearly, I wasn't busy taking photos, as I only have 3 to show on this post.  Let's recap what's been going on in the Goers' household: New siding for our house...!  This is a project that we've been talking about doing for years, and we finally found someone that had the right product and the right price.  Our house is no longer a light peach color, it's Tuscan Clay with white accents.  It looks so shiny and fresh!  Now, we just need to work on our monster of a garage... I was in Palm Springs for eight, verrrrrry loooooong days.  I was staffing a travel program for one of my favorite clients, so at least I liked who I was supporting while there.  I hadn't traveled for work since May 2007, and honestly, I don't miss it.  I guess everything changes once you have a kid.  I missed Ava like crazy, and kept...
