What a wonderful holiday week that we had at home. We didn't go anywhere, or do anything exciting, and that's ok! A year ago we were battling a blizzard and plane mechanical issues to get down to Florida, and this year...nothing! There were no weather issues (actually it's gorgeous right now...sunny and mid-40's) and the only battling was debate over who was going to sit where on which couch for movie night. Pretty easy and low-key, if you ask me...
I picked up a "feast pack" from a local restaurant, and we enjoyed that for Thanksgiving dinner. There was turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, mac & cheese, dinner rolls, and pumpkin pie. It was pretty tasty and way easier than making everything from scratch. Plus, we were supporting a local business, so I can get on board with that. We talked to both sets of grandparents via video chats, so it was nice to see family faces, even though we couldn't be together.
For Friday's movie night, Ava picked out Christmas Vacation. Even though I had seen it before, I must have been distracted previously, as there were so many scenes that I don't remember. There was one scene when Clark and Cousin Eddie were walking through a Wal-Mart, and they wandered by a display of Cabbage Patch Kids (the movie was made in 1989, so that definitely makes sense.) I made a comment about Cabbage Patch Kids and G looked at me, with a confused look on his faced. He said, "Are those like Sour Patch Kids, but they taste like cabbage?" I thought that was so funny and clever - and he was really asking that! We clarified what CPK are, and I think he was a little relieved that a monstrosity like his suggestion doesn't exist. But then today he asked me what cabbage tastes like, so...maybe we need to investigate this a little further...
We also tackled (and succeeded) in decorating the house for Christmas on Friday while Scott was at work. The kids were a huge help with putting ornaments on the tree. It was nice not to worry about little hands accidentally breaking things, and they each loved looking at the ornaments from years past. We dearly missed Grandma Karen's help with decorating, as it has become a tradition for her to help out each year. So, 2021...we'll get back to that plan!
The rest of the time has just been spent hanging out, relaxing and enjoying being with family.
G had so much fun building this Lego structure
