Week 34 at Home: The Week That Would Not End

Oooof, this last week felt like it lasted a full year! I'm super happy that the asteroid that was predicted to hit the earth on November 2 didn't fulfill its destiny. With that disaster averted, the week was off to a great start.

And then Tuesday arrived...election day, which then turned into Groundhog Day for FOUR more days! I honestly didn't get a ton of work done this week. I was constantly refreshing the electoral college map, and having side conversations with co-workers on the literal "state(s) of the union".

I was thrilled when WI and MI turned blue, couldn't believe it when AZ leaned towards the dems, and then just about fell out of bed when I woke up one morning (couldn't tell you which morning...they were all the same) and saw that GEORGIA was blue, as well. I mean.....whaaaaaat?!

It's been a lot to take in this week, and when the AP finally called the election on Saturday, I had to stop cleaning my bathroom and take a few moments to celebrate. I had the sincere joy of explaining to Ava that we will have our very first female VP. She was shocked that it hadn't happened before. And then G asked me, "Have we had a girl president before?" No, little man, no we have not. But, we can never and will not ever give up hope that it will happen in our lifetimes.

Of course there are still states that need to certify their results, and then a very long (almost) three months before we can get #46 sworn in. And even then, there is a LOT of work to do for this country. For starters, there is healing, unifying, education, and some real conversations that need to happen. For the first time ever, I have thought about thinning out my friends list on social media. Someone actually posted "so now COVID is over!" Sure, ok. Tell that to the 100k+ people that will have their test results read positive today. And then the next 100k+ who will have that same result tomorrow. And keep repeating that over and over and over...

I'm looking forward to a better future (at least for the next four years.) I'm concerned that something worse than 45 will rear its ugly head for the next election. But, for today, we celebrate! And tomorrow, we keep up the hard work of building this country back to even better than it was before!

A little joy from the blue skies this weekend :)

Goodbye Sweet Spanky

This is a post that I'm not very excited to write.  As you probably know, our oldest dog, Spanky, had struggled with health issues (ear infections, seizures) his whole life, and recently, his health had severely deteriorated.  He hadn't been eating, his ear infection was so severe his face was swollen, he had a hard time getting up the stairs, and he very rarely wanted to play.  Last week we got a few tail wags from him, and he ate a few bowls of food, but it was a 50-50 chance that he would actually keep the food down. On Thursday, we made the decision that if he wasn't any better by this weekend, we were going to put him down.  I know Scott didn't want to make that decision as Spanky was a very special dog to him - he truly was his little buddy, following him around everywhere, wanting to be wherever Scott was, and howling his sadness whenever Scott would leave him. Throughout Friday night, it became clear that Spanky wasn't going to have a miraculous recovery...

Grandparents, Birthdays, and Sprinklers, Oh MY!

What a whirlwind week we've had...I was trying to get everything wrapped up at work so I could take my 5-day "furlough" from last Wednesday, through tomorrow. Wednesday was my first day at home, so Ava and I had a ton of "fun" getting everything ready for the upcoming activities. I did have a wonderful massage, so that started my vacation off very well... Gramma Karen and Grampa Doug drove in from KC on Wednesday afternoon. We had a great evening catching up, and enjoying the nice weather (until the downpour that happened right as they were leaving our house!) On Thursday, Scott, Dad, Mom, and I drove down to Cannon Falls and Rochester to check out the areas for potential future homes/land for us. At some point, we'd like to move south of the Cities. Ava was a very good little girl, especially considering that she was stuck in a car for most of her FIRST BIRTHDAY!!! We went to Applebee's for lunch, and the wait staff came out singing to someone else...I...

We're Baaaaack!

Wow, I can't believe it's been almost 3 weeks since I've posted anything.  But, let's be honest - it's been a busy few weeks.  Clearly, I wasn't busy taking photos, as I only have 3 to show on this post.  Let's recap what's been going on in the Goers' household: New siding for our house...!  This is a project that we've been talking about doing for years, and we finally found someone that had the right product and the right price.  Our house is no longer a light peach color, it's Tuscan Clay with white accents.  It looks so shiny and fresh!  Now, we just need to work on our monster of a garage... I was in Palm Springs for eight, verrrrrry loooooong days.  I was staffing a travel program for one of my favorite clients, so at least I liked who I was supporting while there.  I hadn't traveled for work since May 2007, and honestly, I don't miss it.  I guess everything changes once you have a kid.  I missed Ava like crazy, and kept...
