Week 33 at Home: SEVEN!

This is the week that always kicks off our holiday chaos...after this, we won't have any calm/down time until January. Even with a pandemic. Guaranteed!

On Monday night we decided it was time to carve our pumpkins. G and I had a blast making a Minecraft Creeper face on his (right), and Ava's was...unique (left). Hers was a pair of block eyes and a block mouth. Scott spruced it up a bit, but long gone are the days when we would carve four+ pumpkins with fancy patterns. Now it's all about efficiency!

Thursday was...G's 7th birthday! Plus, it was also the day when they were dancing for their dance-a-thon fundraiser at school AND it was his class Harvest Party. And then after that, he was invited to a birthday party (no, not for him, but for his buddy Isaac who has the same birthday as G.) Isaac's family was so kind and picked up a candle and party hat for G as well, so he could share in the same birthday fun that Isaac did. I finally picked him up at 7:30pm on Thursday, and then we rushed home so he could open all of his gifts from us. He was SO excited by all of his gifts!

Our last pic of our SIX year old on Wednesday night

Taken the exact minute he turned SEVEN on Thursday morning

Cute kid, but I couldn't help but laugh at Forky's progression to G in the next few pics...

Our party boy celebrating!

I took Friday off of work so I could spend some time at home, prepping/relaxing. But, let's be real. There was no relaxing. The whole day was spent doing stuff around the house, running errands, making plans for Halloween day/night, and then preparing a special birthday dinner with both Ava and G. It was a great day off, but whew, I don't feel like I got as much done as I really wanted to.

Mummy Enchiladas...the presentation could use some work, but they tasted great!

Tres Leches Haunted Ghost cake...Um yeah. This also tasted fantastic, but our ghosts turned into melted blobs...we all had a good laugh about that

Halloween day is off to a good start, but it's really windy. We were planning on having a bonfire and then tossing candy to passing kids, but...if it's windy, it won't be safe to have a fire. I suppose we could still throw the treats to people. Or, as my aunt stated: Pelted with Pez! Bopped by bubble gum! Scattered by Skittles! Mashed by M&Ms! Hailed by Hershey's! Crashed by KitKats!

We aren't taking the kids trick-or-treating, so we need to make sure they get enough candy to share. It'll be interesting to see how many people are out and about tonight. Regardless, I have a bunch of fun things for us to do...games, blind taste-testing the candy, watching spooky movies, baking a jack-o-lantern pizza, crafts, etc. It'll be as good as we make it, and that's what we have to keep in mind.

Happy Halloween!

Grandparents, Birthdays, and Sprinklers, Oh MY!

What a whirlwind week we've had...I was trying to get everything wrapped up at work so I could take my 5-day "furlough" from last Wednesday, through tomorrow. Wednesday was my first day at home, so Ava and I had a ton of "fun" getting everything ready for the upcoming activities. I did have a wonderful massage, so that started my vacation off very well... Gramma Karen and Grampa Doug drove in from KC on Wednesday afternoon. We had a great evening catching up, and enjoying the nice weather (until the downpour that happened right as they were leaving our house!) On Thursday, Scott, Dad, Mom, and I drove down to Cannon Falls and Rochester to check out the areas for potential future homes/land for us. At some point, we'd like to move south of the Cities. Ava was a very good little girl, especially considering that she was stuck in a car for most of her FIRST BIRTHDAY!!! We went to Applebee's for lunch, and the wait staff came out singing to someone else...I...

Scooter's Slippers

It's been a crappy week.  There was another round of layoffs at BI, and one of my favorite people to work with was let go.  So, now the office won't be nearly as fun - but I'm thankful to still have a job. It's hunting opener up north, so Scott has been gone all weekend, but he did get a deer yesterday!  He got one a few weeks ago down south with his bow, as well.  I'm not really sure where we're going to put all of this venison!  With our wood floors, Ava's been slipping and sliding around a lot in her socks, so I decided she need a pair of slippers.  The bottoms are pretty fluffy, so it's going to take some time to mold them to her feet.  In the meantime, Scooter the Cat loves wearing them!    Ava was having fun piling up Scooter, Dollie, and Elmo into the rocking chair.  I wonder if she's too young to play with my Cabbage Patch Dolls??  I know Scott's hoping for a tomboy, but she might like playing with dolls, t...

Waffles and Helmets

Ava, Grandma Karen and I had a great end to the weekend last Sunday.  We took a little adventure to Black: Coffee and Waffles, which is a small little place by the U which serves...waffles!  I chose to have a savory waffle, Grandma Karen chose a fruit and granola waffle, and Ava chose to build her own with cinnamon, caramel, whipped cream, and marshmallows.  Sweeeeeet! It was neat going someplace we hadn't been before, plus it gives Ava exposure to more than just her suburban life.  She needs that.  We then went and played at a local park, and Ava made a few new friends.  It was perfect weather to sit on a bench and catch up with my mom!  After 30 min or so, we rounded up Ava and headed off to the Wild Rumpus bookstore in the Linden Hills neighborhood of Minneapolis (by Lake Harriet.)  We saw lots and lots of animals there (cats, chinchillas, rats, ferrets, birds) but no chickens!  Bummer!  It took forever to get Ava to narrow dow...
