Happy Spooky Birthday!

And the holiday season has officially kicked off! My parents hosted us for dinner last Sunday, and we had an early mini-birthday session celebration for G...he opened presents, and had a yummy cupcake and ice cream. Plus, we all enjoyed the wonderful meal and the time spent as family. Very special!

On Tuesday we had a million places to be, but managed to squeeze in G's birthday dinner request (mac and cheese and hot dogs, of course) after Ava's baton session. Thank goodness he opens presents so quickly because we didn't have a lot of time to spare that night! We also managed to devour another (mini) cake and sing another round of the HBD tune.

Sugar is not in short supply this time of year as Halloween was just two days later. Ava was a beautiful angel who did NOT want to wear a coat over her costume (but it was below freezing outside, so...) so we had a bit of a scuffle about that. She ended up wearing 5 layers of clothing under her costume, including 2 pairs of gloves. Sigh. She and two friends went out scavenging the neighborhood for candy. I never saw her once she left the house. Crazy!

Scott manned the house, while G (aka Flash) and I headed down to the neighbor's for a pizza dinner, and some very light trick-or-treating. We only stayed out for an hour, and then came back to chat while the kids played at their house. We did discover that our neighbors were giving away jello shots and serving up pizza to everyone. They had an amazing amount of goodies for all, and Kristin and I decided we need to get to know them better. :)

Neither of the kids got as much candy as they had in years past, but we are a-ok with that! 'Tis the season for holiday treats...for the next two months. (I can't believe that Christmas is next month!!)

I headed over to G's school on Halloween to watch him in the Harvest Parade, and check in on him at the class party. His school is one of the last ones in the district to allow the kids to celebrate Halloween, so we're trying to enjoy it as much as we can. Now that Ava's in 6th grade, they don't have fun parties like that, but they did have a field trip to Ft Snelling on Halloween, and she was able to see parts of it that she had never seen before (like the blacksmith shop.) She had fun!

G and his amazing Kindergarten teacher!

Yesterday, the kids, my mom, and I had a super busy day...we composted our pumpkins, dropped off blankets at the vet for a pet shelter collection, went to the library (where G saw a friend.) We then went to the really big craft show at Rosemount High School and managed to purchase a few Christmas presents. Hooray! And, G saw a friend there, too. After that, we hit up McDonalds for lunch (and hey, guess what, G saw a friend there....he knows everyone apparently!) and then headed over to my parents house to see the additional things they had accomplished since last weekend (moving is not fun, but they have done a great job of making their new house a home.)

When we were done at my parent's house, I took the kids to Party City to pick up supplies to make a few more gift bags for the birthday party today (ahhh, 15 little boys to manage for 2 hours...should be fun?) and then I dropped them off and picked up the cake and a few other things, including another Christmas gift. (Look at me go!)

We enjoyed a dinner out last night, and took it easy once we got to home. Kind of. G and I pulled down all of the Halloween decor and decorated for Thanksgiving, plus I sorted out all of their Halloween candy (gotta check 'em for dangerous items!)

Did I mention that I've been sick with a bad cold all week? Not sleeping well, and exhausted...this week's activities have been a big drain on me. I was looking forward to an extra hour of sleep when Scott came into our bedroom this morning and asked what time it was. Our clocks that need to be manually changed said 8:30am, the news on TV said 7:30am, and our phones said 6:30am. Somehow our phones set themselves back TWO hours...ahhhhh!!! Small panic attack, but we pulled it together, and now all of the clocks on our devices match. But how sad...we gained an hour, but then lost one. Boo!

We have G's friends birthday party this afternoon...pizza, cake, ice cream, and fun at an indoor playground. We're looking forward to celebrating this little guy turning SIX!

Snuggly Warm

It's the time of year to be cozy, so there's nothing better than sitting in front of a warm fire, reading a good book/watching a good show, and enjoying the glow of the Christmas tree. Even Pria thinks so! Pria was avoiding the vacuum earlier this week...she loves to be on Ava's bed! Getting cozy inside of a little fortress After a fairly busy week at school, work, and extracurricular activities, we all enjoyed a night at home on Friday. G and I built gingerbread houses (they both look a little sad, but we had fun), and then we all played Tractoropoly for a few hours. Turns out that G was stockpiling money, so we need to figure out his secret on how to save! Love Ava's face and hand placement here And we can't forget all of the treats that George brought this week! Sunday, December 10 "Can you get a bullseye?" Monday, December 11 "I'm brining Christmas Cheer, by singing loud for everyone to hear!" Tuesday, December 12 "Don't be the o

Barbie & George

We had a fun week to wrap up November. Last Saturday, Scott and I enjoyed a nice dinner out, and then a spontaneous trip to Home Depot...and we got some new exterior Christmas décor! But more important was the time spent together. Plus, it started to snow, so the view from the restaurant was beautiful (but the drive home was a little sketchy.) On Tuesday night, Ava and I headed out to the Mall of America to experience the Malibu Barbie Café. We had a blast exploring the area, eating the yummy food, and then shopping for a bit. It was a wonderful night evening spent together. Even the drinks were pretty! My Avocado Toast & salad Ava's Paradise Pancakes On Friday night, my book club gathered for our holiday party and it was a blast! We had such a good time chatting, eating, drinking, and finished off the night with a book exchange. I cherish and deeply appreciate the friendships that have developed with my neighbors because of this book club. And to really kick off the holiday se

26 Hours in a Day

Just yesterday morning, I was thinking to myself that I could really use a few more hours each day.  We don't sleep a whole lot, both work long hours at our jobs, try to play with Ava as much as we can at night and on the weekends, and then we have to do all of the adult-stuff...paying bills, grocery shopping, cleaning, work on side jobs, house projects, etc.  If there were only 26 hours in a day, we could: *Sleep just an extra 30 minutes - we need it since the dogs have been waking us up each weekend day at 5:30am.  What could be SO urgent that they need to get us up then?!?  You'd think we only feed them once a week, or something. *Spend an extra hour with Ava...we could go to the park every night, take an extra long bath, read a few extra stories, and just enjoy the giggles and chattiness. *Take 30 minutes to talk to each other about how things are going.  With Scott leaving for work each day before 5am, and then all of the craziness that ensues when I get home at nigh
