Back in the Swing

This past Tuesday was my first day back to work, so that means little G went to daycare!  He was a big hit with all of the other kids...I even got a pic from Sheila (the provider) during one of the days where he was all smiles.  Seeing that little guy pop up on my phone was the best surprise I could get during the day!

It was nice to hear that an experienced provider also noticed that G doesn't nap much during the day...and when he does, it's only for 30 minutes at a time.  On the flip side, that means he sleeps awesome at night.  Last night, he went almost 11 hours!  When I wake him up to feed him in the morning, it's really more for MY benefit than his - things get a little painful if he goes too long without eating...!

Due to the cold temps, Ava didn't have school (again) on Thursday this week.  And we're slotted for another few cold days this coming week, so I wouldn't be surprised if school was cancelled again.  I heard something about the seniors in high school technically not being able to graduate as they won't have completed enough days in school, due to all of these closings.  I know they will find a way to make it work, but man, this winter is wreaking havoc in unexpected places...  I don't think Ava's had a full 5-day school week since mid-December.  That's crazy!

When Ava WAS at school this week, they managed to take a fun field trip to see a play...it sounds like all of the kids really enjoyed it, and it was a nice change from sitting in their classrooms all day.  She's reading more and more on her own...I love hearing her sound out words.  She does pretty well, and that makes it even more fun for us to read together.

My first week back to work went fairly well.  At the very least, it was great to see my co-workers again!  I was put on an account that is in service recovery mode, but I'm not getting too worked up about it at this point.  I'm looking at it as a chance to help develop a different relationship with the client.  We had a deliverable on Friday that we met, without any errors, so that was a great way to start the weekend!

Without a doubt, my favorite part of the day is when I get to walk in the door and see these two faces!

On a silly note, we discovered we could wash our couch and loveseat cushion covers in the washing machine, and not just have to rely on getting them professionally cleaned.  With two dogs and two kids, this news made me happier than I thought possible!  A minor accomplishment, but one that feels really great. :)

Grandparents, Birthdays, and Sprinklers, Oh MY!

What a whirlwind week we've had...I was trying to get everything wrapped up at work so I could take my 5-day "furlough" from last Wednesday, through tomorrow. Wednesday was my first day at home, so Ava and I had a ton of "fun" getting everything ready for the upcoming activities. I did have a wonderful massage, so that started my vacation off very well... Gramma Karen and Grampa Doug drove in from KC on Wednesday afternoon. We had a great evening catching up, and enjoying the nice weather (until the downpour that happened right as they were leaving our house!) On Thursday, Scott, Dad, Mom, and I drove down to Cannon Falls and Rochester to check out the areas for potential future homes/land for us. At some point, we'd like to move south of the Cities. Ava was a very good little girl, especially considering that she was stuck in a car for most of her FIRST BIRTHDAY!!! We went to Applebee's for lunch, and the wait staff came out singing to someone else...I...

Scooter's Slippers

It's been a crappy week.  There was another round of layoffs at BI, and one of my favorite people to work with was let go.  So, now the office won't be nearly as fun - but I'm thankful to still have a job. It's hunting opener up north, so Scott has been gone all weekend, but he did get a deer yesterday!  He got one a few weeks ago down south with his bow, as well.  I'm not really sure where we're going to put all of this venison!  With our wood floors, Ava's been slipping and sliding around a lot in her socks, so I decided she need a pair of slippers.  The bottoms are pretty fluffy, so it's going to take some time to mold them to her feet.  In the meantime, Scooter the Cat loves wearing them!    Ava was having fun piling up Scooter, Dollie, and Elmo into the rocking chair.  I wonder if she's too young to play with my Cabbage Patch Dolls??  I know Scott's hoping for a tomboy, but she might like playing with dolls, t...

Waffles and Helmets

Ava, Grandma Karen and I had a great end to the weekend last Sunday.  We took a little adventure to Black: Coffee and Waffles, which is a small little place by the U which serves...waffles!  I chose to have a savory waffle, Grandma Karen chose a fruit and granola waffle, and Ava chose to build her own with cinnamon, caramel, whipped cream, and marshmallows.  Sweeeeeet! It was neat going someplace we hadn't been before, plus it gives Ava exposure to more than just her suburban life.  She needs that.  We then went and played at a local park, and Ava made a few new friends.  It was perfect weather to sit on a bench and catch up with my mom!  After 30 min or so, we rounded up Ava and headed off to the Wild Rumpus bookstore in the Linden Hills neighborhood of Minneapolis (by Lake Harriet.)  We saw lots and lots of animals there (cats, chinchillas, rats, ferrets, birds) but no chickens!  Bummer!  It took forever to get Ava to narrow dow...
