Week 4 at Home: We Got This!

The 2nd week of distance learning was even better than the first week. G knows exactly what he needs to do each day, and his resistance to the writing pieces has reduced a bit. The meltdowns don't last nearly as long, and then he focuses and gets it done. We've put together a good pattern where we alternate school work with TV/Kindle time, as well as some screen-free time with toys.

I did get some feedback from his teacher that he is doing really well with his distance learning, so I'm encouraged that we're going to make it.

Ava is also doing really well...I'm so impressed by her focus. I'm also very grateful that she took Tech Ed this fall, FACs (Home Ec) this winter, and is now in Art. Her assignments are all being done on her iPad and they look great. She's been spending all of her extra time with a drawing app on her phone. Ava is such a talented artist, and she loves to spend time doing it. We're so proud of her!

I had a deployment for work on Tuesday night. I've been working on a specific project since last October, and we finally were able to move the code to production, without too many issues. A prod deploy without massive issues (or a full rollback) is a WIN in my mind!

I supported a local SSP coffee shop (Black Sheep Coffee!) that is now making masks...G refuses to put his on, but at least I have one for each of us, so we're prepared.

Zoom is becoming a regular thing in our house...my book club met via Zoom on Wednesday night, and on Friday night I had a Zoom HH with some friends. It was SO nice to be able to see my friends again!

Scott is continuing to go into work every day, and even worked a full day on Saturday for his side business. I'm a little nervous with him being out of the house so much, but his job allows him to keep space between him and people, so he has that going for him (and he wouldn't have it any other way, lol.)

On Friday we had our basement carpet installed. It was a noisy, long process, but the end result turned out great! Scott needs to work on the trim/doors, and then I need to do the touch-up painting when it's all done. Our new TV and blinds will be delivered this coming week - hooray! We need to keep our eyes out for furniture, but it's really hard to buy stuff when we can't see it in person, or check out it's comfy-level. Oh well...if anything, we'll just do some floor-lounging until we can get better seating down there!

Not the basement, but...Scott installed our new storm door. We've been busy with house projects lately!

On Saturday night we started prepping for Easter. I sure hope the Easter Bunny decides to visit even with the Stay at Home order. Yikes!

Scott dyed the pretty solo multi-color egg in the back. Ava, G, and I all dyed the one-color eggs in the front. We're boring. :)

Happy Easter to you and your family. Enjoy this special day with your loved ones...and stay safe and healthy!

Snuggly Warm

It's the time of year to be cozy, so there's nothing better than sitting in front of a warm fire, reading a good book/watching a good show, and enjoying the glow of the Christmas tree. Even Pria thinks so! Pria was avoiding the vacuum earlier this week...she loves to be on Ava's bed! Getting cozy inside of a little fortress After a fairly busy week at school, work, and extracurricular activities, we all enjoyed a night at home on Friday. G and I built gingerbread houses (they both look a little sad, but we had fun), and then we all played Tractoropoly for a few hours. Turns out that G was stockpiling money, so we need to figure out his secret on how to save! Love Ava's face and hand placement here And we can't forget all of the treats that George brought this week! Sunday, December 10 "Can you get a bullseye?" Monday, December 11 "I'm brining Christmas Cheer, by singing loud for everyone to hear!" Tuesday, December 12 "Don't be the o

26 Hours in a Day

Just yesterday morning, I was thinking to myself that I could really use a few more hours each day.  We don't sleep a whole lot, both work long hours at our jobs, try to play with Ava as much as we can at night and on the weekends, and then we have to do all of the adult-stuff...paying bills, grocery shopping, cleaning, work on side jobs, house projects, etc.  If there were only 26 hours in a day, we could: *Sleep just an extra 30 minutes - we need it since the dogs have been waking us up each weekend day at 5:30am.  What could be SO urgent that they need to get us up then?!?  You'd think we only feed them once a week, or something. *Spend an extra hour with Ava...we could go to the park every night, take an extra long bath, read a few extra stories, and just enjoy the giggles and chattiness. *Take 30 minutes to talk to each other about how things are going.  With Scott leaving for work each day before 5am, and then all of the craziness that ensues when I get home at nigh

Barbie & George

We had a fun week to wrap up November. Last Saturday, Scott and I enjoyed a nice dinner out, and then a spontaneous trip to Home Depot...and we got some new exterior Christmas décor! But more important was the time spent together. Plus, it started to snow, so the view from the restaurant was beautiful (but the drive home was a little sketchy.) On Tuesday night, Ava and I headed out to the Mall of America to experience the Malibu Barbie Café. We had a blast exploring the area, eating the yummy food, and then shopping for a bit. It was a wonderful night evening spent together. Even the drinks were pretty! My Avocado Toast & salad Ava's Paradise Pancakes On Friday night, my book club gathered for our holiday party and it was a blast! We had such a good time chatting, eating, drinking, and finished off the night with a book exchange. I cherish and deeply appreciate the friendships that have developed with my neighbors because of this book club. And to really kick off the holiday se
