Spring Spring Spring!

We had another fun-filled, busy week! The kiddos both had friends over on Sunday, so we had a full house of people, plus our basement was getting the ceiling sprayed Sunday morning (knock-down texture) so there was even more activity here than usual.

But, the ceiling turned out great, and he only needs to come back maybe one more time for touch-ups and then we can move onto the next part...painting! Hooray! I'm so excited to be getting close to having a basement where we can let the kids have fun during the summer.

Scott and I started off the workweek with our annual tax appointment on Monday night. Last year was such a mess with needing to do our 2018 taxes, an amended 2017 tax return (due to Scott's work making an error with his 401(k) ), and also his uncle Tom's 2018 taxes. This year was a breeze and we were done in less than an hour. Scott and I were able to enjoy a quick dinner out, as Grandma Karen was at home with the kiddos...as always, thanks for the help with watching the kids, Mom!!

I worked from home on Wednesday and picked up G early from school so he could go to his first therapy session. He seemed to really like the therapist, and is excited to go back this coming week. We're very interested to see what progress he makes over the next few months...hopefully all in the right direction! I was prepping him mentally to be picked up early on Wednesday and he expressed concern that he wouldn't be able to remind Matthew (his bus buddy) to take home his band instrument with him on Wednesday afternoon on the bus. Apparently, my little G reminds his 5th grade buddy not to forget his instrument, every Wednesday afternoon. I love it!

Thursday night was PTO and a quick chat with my neighbor/friend Emily. I hadn't seen her in about a month, so it was great to catch up with her for a little bit. Plus, at PTO, we both learned a bit more about how the library works at the elementary school. G came home with a new library book on Tuesday, and he was excited because they were from the "shelves". I had no idea what he meant by that (I mean, I know they have shelves of books in the library, but I thought all of his books came from shelves??) Turns out there is a benefit sitting next to the media specialist at PTO! :) We learned that the Kindergartners start out the year picking out books from tables, and THEN they move into picking out books from the shelves, with help from their 5th grade buddy...none-other than Matthew! (Part of me is curious if Matthew wonders why the heck he was paired with such an intense Kindergartner like G, lol!)

Friday was a fun day for both kids...neither of them had school, so Ava hung out home, in utter peace and quiet, while G was off at another school, participating in the Y program for the day. I stopped at Costco on the way home and was very sad to learn they were out of toilet paper. The hoarding madness is real, people!

We were able to enjoy some of the lovely weather this week, tho. A group of us took a quick break at work on Friday afternoon and walked around the lake to get to the park on the other side. It was so sunny and bright outside, and it was great to get the blood flowing and enjoy the fresh air. It certainly brightened up the end of a long work week!

My mom and I spent a few hours at a local craft show on Saturday morning. It was not nearly as crowded as the fall show, so it was much easier to walk around and buy more stuff than we knew we needed. Ha. We were very careful not to touch too much stuff, and my mom whipped out the hand sanitizer at least once while we were there. I'm afraid we're going to start isolating ourselves, just to limit the exposure to COVID-19. I'm pretty sure we have all increased our hand washing activity, so at the very least, that's an excellent habit to encourage.

The end of the weekend looks promising with 60 degree temps...amazing! It seems like spring might really be here soon!

Goodbye Sweet Spanky

This is a post that I'm not very excited to write.  As you probably know, our oldest dog, Spanky, had struggled with health issues (ear infections, seizures) his whole life, and recently, his health had severely deteriorated.  He hadn't been eating, his ear infection was so severe his face was swollen, he had a hard time getting up the stairs, and he very rarely wanted to play.  Last week we got a few tail wags from him, and he ate a few bowls of food, but it was a 50-50 chance that he would actually keep the food down. On Thursday, we made the decision that if he wasn't any better by this weekend, we were going to put him down.  I know Scott didn't want to make that decision as Spanky was a very special dog to him - he truly was his little buddy, following him around everywhere, wanting to be wherever Scott was, and howling his sadness whenever Scott would leave him. Throughout Friday night, it became clear that Spanky wasn't going to have a miraculous recovery...

Happily Ever After?

Lately, I've been adding to the Disney Princess movies in our collection.  Last week I bought Beauty and the Beast for Ava.  That was never a favorite movie of mine, but now that I've seen it several times in the last week, it's growing on me.  I figure this is a good chance for me to catch up on some of the stories that I missed out on! Watching all of these princess movies has me thinking about fairy tales...why is it that it's always the evil stepMOTHER?  Or the mom is dead, and no one has taken her place?  Very rarely is it the father who is evil, or dead.  This has actually come up as a topic in more than one conversation lately, and has me a bit intrigued.  Fairy tales are often not very happy - and usually someone dies at some point.  I was a giving an overview of Snow White to a friend of mine, and as I was going through the story, both of us were horrified at the message - mom dies, evil stepmother wants to murder her pretty stepdaugh...

26 Hours in a Day

Just yesterday morning, I was thinking to myself that I could really use a few more hours each day.  We don't sleep a whole lot, both work long hours at our jobs, try to play with Ava as much as we can at night and on the weekends, and then we have to do all of the adult-stuff...paying bills, grocery shopping, cleaning, work on side jobs, house projects, etc.  If there were only 26 hours in a day, we could: *Sleep just an extra 30 minutes - we need it since the dogs have been waking us up each weekend day at 5:30am.  What could be SO urgent that they need to get us up then?!?  You'd think we only feed them once a week, or something. *Spend an extra hour with Ava...we could go to the park every night, take an extra long bath, read a few extra stories, and just enjoy the giggles and chattiness. *Take 30 minutes to talk to each other about how things are going.  With Scott leaving for work each day before 5am, and then all of the craziness that ensues wh...
