Pumpkin Guts...Ugh!

Another fall week has wrapped up and we're seven days closer to the holidays. I've noticed that as I've gotten older, my year seems to be broken into chunks, according to what's happening with school, the kids, the holidays, etc. For now, we're inching closer to the 2019 holiday kickoff, starting with G's 6th birthday next week!!

But, that's a tale for a future post. :)

This week we focused on the upcoming Halloween adventure. Both kids have confirmed their costumes will work, and we have the appropriate layers to wear if it's super cold outside. We have a slight change in plans from our usual Halloween escapades, as a key member of our trick-or-treating crew has moved out of the neighborhood...and I'm not quite sure what we're going to do, and where we're going to go. Gotta get that figured out soon!

Last year we ran out of time to carve pumpkins, and for me, that's a key activity of the Halloween season. So, yesterday, we made sure to get that on our agenda for the evening. In the past we've done complicated patterns that take forever, but this year, we chose only two pumpkins, and made super easy designs. Scott made it even easier by using a saw to cut the tops and the designs out. Then, I went back through and smoothed things out a bit, and Ava and I scraped the guts from the insides. G wanted NOTHING to do with that part, but he cheered us on from afar. Ha!

It was fun and easy, and now we can check that off of the holiday fun list. :) (Rather, the holiday to-do list but that sounds a little...forced fun-ish.)

It was a good week...both Ava and G had school Mon-Wed, and then had Thurs/Fri off due to MEA (which we will NOT have next year. Gasp!) Ava had fun at home during those days and even started off the weekend right with a birthday/slumber party for one of her good friends. G also had a fairly good time with the Y (great day at site on Thursday, and a fun day at the Como Zoo on Friday.) He was able to play with new friends and see some new animals that aren't at the MN Zoo.

G has been trying really hard to behave well at school and I think by the end of each week, he's just done. I get it, as I'm the same way on Friday...we're just ready for a break and looking forward to the weekend. I mean, who isn't like that??

To celebrate our weekend, he and I worked on his birthday invites yesterday. I'm not sure what we're getting ourselves into, but we've inviting 15 little friends to join us at the party in a few weeks. Yikes! And pretty much all boys, too (we made a few exceptions...for Ava and a neighbor. But, I bet Ava would be happy to skip it if we let her!)

G also participated in his school's FunRun on Wednesday...he ran 37 laps and helped raise over $300 for his school. Thanks again to everyone who contributed...it helps make Red Pine an even better place for education!

G also picked up another bug, just a few short days after he finished up the amoxicillin for his strep. Scott reminded me that Ava got really sick her kindergarten year too, so we just need to have patience as his little immune system gets stronger. He's fine now, but was a bit off for a few days.

He and I snuggled on the couch and I got up for a few min and came back to him snoozing. He was exhausted!

Today looks to be a glorious fall day with blue skies, mid-60's temps, and gorgeous leaves to admire before they all fall off the trees next week. Hee-hee. Scott and I are going to work outside and get the plants tidied up/removed for the winter, and then I'm going to bake some pumpkin bread. I have quite a few other things to do today, and I'm excited to get started!

Snuggly Warm

It's the time of year to be cozy, so there's nothing better than sitting in front of a warm fire, reading a good book/watching a good show, and enjoying the glow of the Christmas tree. Even Pria thinks so! Pria was avoiding the vacuum earlier this week...she loves to be on Ava's bed! Getting cozy inside of a little fortress After a fairly busy week at school, work, and extracurricular activities, we all enjoyed a night at home on Friday. G and I built gingerbread houses (they both look a little sad, but we had fun), and then we all played Tractoropoly for a few hours. Turns out that G was stockpiling money, so we need to figure out his secret on how to save! Love Ava's face and hand placement here And we can't forget all of the treats that George brought this week! Sunday, December 10 "Can you get a bullseye?" Monday, December 11 "I'm brining Christmas Cheer, by singing loud for everyone to hear!" Tuesday, December 12 "Don't be the o

Barbie & George

We had a fun week to wrap up November. Last Saturday, Scott and I enjoyed a nice dinner out, and then a spontaneous trip to Home Depot...and we got some new exterior Christmas décor! But more important was the time spent together. Plus, it started to snow, so the view from the restaurant was beautiful (but the drive home was a little sketchy.) On Tuesday night, Ava and I headed out to the Mall of America to experience the Malibu Barbie Café. We had a blast exploring the area, eating the yummy food, and then shopping for a bit. It was a wonderful night evening spent together. Even the drinks were pretty! My Avocado Toast & salad Ava's Paradise Pancakes On Friday night, my book club gathered for our holiday party and it was a blast! We had such a good time chatting, eating, drinking, and finished off the night with a book exchange. I cherish and deeply appreciate the friendships that have developed with my neighbors because of this book club. And to really kick off the holiday se

26 Hours in a Day

Just yesterday morning, I was thinking to myself that I could really use a few more hours each day.  We don't sleep a whole lot, both work long hours at our jobs, try to play with Ava as much as we can at night and on the weekends, and then we have to do all of the adult-stuff...paying bills, grocery shopping, cleaning, work on side jobs, house projects, etc.  If there were only 26 hours in a day, we could: *Sleep just an extra 30 minutes - we need it since the dogs have been waking us up each weekend day at 5:30am.  What could be SO urgent that they need to get us up then?!?  You'd think we only feed them once a week, or something. *Spend an extra hour with Ava...we could go to the park every night, take an extra long bath, read a few extra stories, and just enjoy the giggles and chattiness. *Take 30 minutes to talk to each other about how things are going.  With Scott leaving for work each day before 5am, and then all of the craziness that ensues when I get home at nigh
