Weddings and Bands and Snuggles, Oh My!

It's been a non-stop week. One of those weeks when you let out a squeal of joy when you see that Saturday has no timed plans, and you'll be able to be at home, getting stuff done. Hooray!

Last weekend, we headed out to a local ski chalet to celebrate Scott's cousin's wedding. They were married in Breckenridge, and had a small reception for close family and friends. It was nice to be able to cheers the happy couple!

S'mores around the bonfire!

We also had a bunch of music events this week. G and I headed to Apple Valley to watch their community band perform Holst's The Planets. It fills me with such joy to be able to support the local arts. G did a great job paying attention to their performance, and didn't get too antsy until the end.

On Thursday night, we headed to Central Park in Rosemount, and watched the RHS concert bands perform their end-of-year concerts. Ava's band was the second to last, so we had a chance to order from the food trucks, and catch up with band parents who we haven't seen since the marching band season. Both Ava and Aaron's bands did a wonderful job, and it was a bit magical to watch them perform, outside on a lovely evening. We've had a week plus of rain, and this was the first clear day...perfect for the performances!

On Saturday morning, after Pria woke me up, we headed down to the living room, and cuddled under blankets and enjoyed the weekend treat of a chai. G came down first and snuggled with me, and when he got up for a moment, Ava swooped in and took his spot. G took up residence on my other side (after he voiced his displeasure with Ava) and we all cuddled for a bit. I love that the kids still love to sit with me on the couch in the mornings (and sometimes at night.) Scott had already left to run an errand, so he didn't get to join in the snuggle crew!

Mewing...

Waiting patiently for me to get out of bed...

We're looking forward to a relaxing weekend, where we can go at our own pace, see some family, and enjoy the downtime. Happy Memorial Day!

Goodbye Sweet Spanky

This is a post that I'm not very excited to write.  As you probably know, our oldest dog, Spanky, had struggled with health issues (ear infections, seizures) his whole life, and recently, his health had severely deteriorated.  He hadn't been eating, his ear infection was so severe his face was swollen, he had a hard time getting up the stairs, and he very rarely wanted to play.  Last week we got a few tail wags from him, and he ate a few bowls of food, but it was a 50-50 chance that he would actually keep the food down. On Thursday, we made the decision that if he wasn't any better by this weekend, we were going to put him down.  I know Scott didn't want to make that decision as Spanky was a very special dog to him - he truly was his little buddy, following him around everywhere, wanting to be wherever Scott was, and howling his sadness whenever Scott would leave him. Throughout Friday night, it became clear that Spanky wasn't going to have a miraculous recovery...

Grandparents, Birthdays, and Sprinklers, Oh MY!

What a whirlwind week we've had...I was trying to get everything wrapped up at work so I could take my 5-day "furlough" from last Wednesday, through tomorrow. Wednesday was my first day at home, so Ava and I had a ton of "fun" getting everything ready for the upcoming activities. I did have a wonderful massage, so that started my vacation off very well... Gramma Karen and Grampa Doug drove in from KC on Wednesday afternoon. We had a great evening catching up, and enjoying the nice weather (until the downpour that happened right as they were leaving our house!) On Thursday, Scott, Dad, Mom, and I drove down to Cannon Falls and Rochester to check out the areas for potential future homes/land for us. At some point, we'd like to move south of the Cities. Ava was a very good little girl, especially considering that she was stuck in a car for most of her FIRST BIRTHDAY!!! We went to Applebee's for lunch, and the wait staff came out singing to someone else...I...

Happily Ever After?

Lately, I've been adding to the Disney Princess movies in our collection.  Last week I bought Beauty and the Beast for Ava.  That was never a favorite movie of mine, but now that I've seen it several times in the last week, it's growing on me.  I figure this is a good chance for me to catch up on some of the stories that I missed out on! Watching all of these princess movies has me thinking about fairy tales...why is it that it's always the evil stepMOTHER?  Or the mom is dead, and no one has taken her place?  Very rarely is it the father who is evil, or dead.  This has actually come up as a topic in more than one conversation lately, and has me a bit intrigued.  Fairy tales are often not very happy - and usually someone dies at some point.  I was a giving an overview of Snow White to a friend of mine, and as I was going through the story, both of us were horrified at the message - mom dies, evil stepmother wants to murder her pretty stepdaugh...
