Spring Events

What a wonderful and busy time it's been so far this spring. Last weekend, my mom and I headed down to Cannon Falls for the "girls shopping getaway day". It's always so much fun to take a little road trip and spend time with her. I bought some amazing things (my mom is on a shopping freeze for Lent), and then she took me out to lunch. Yum!

We also watched Yental (Deb's sweet dog) on Saturday, as Deb was moving out of her home into a new one. Moving is not a fun activity, but Deb's new home will be a lovely fit for her once she's all settled in!

On Thursday night, G and I headed to the Red Pine Spring Arts Night, where he promptly ditched me to hang out with friends. Luckily, Ava was meeting us there. She will be shadowing the art teacher at Red Pine, so this was a great chance for Ava to meet her prior to the mentoring that begins next week.

Spring Arts Night is a really big deal...every student has art work on the walls throughout the school, there's a glow dance party in the gym, snacks and pizza in the cafeteria, and a glow light space themed event in the art room. It's always an amazing turn out, and there are SO many people there. After Ava headed home (and G was still ditching me), I ended up hanging out with the parents of his friend group. These are the ones that I generally flock to at these events, and it struck me that this will be one of the last events that we will all be together. Most of G's friends will be going to a different middle school and high school. His elementary school splits between two different cities, and he's heading south to Rosemount, while his friends head north to Eagan. It makes me a little sad for him, but I know he'll have a bunch of friends that will be at Rosemount with him...just not his best friends.

G's planet Earth

After art night was over, there was a stargazing event, so we pulled out the blankets, and whipped out the apps to view the constellations. We found Jupiter, Mars, and Taurus! It was pretty chilly, but the kids LOVED playing on the field in the dark, lighting the way with their glow sticks.

On Saturday morning, I headed to my friend/neighbor's house. We had been talking about royal icing cookie decorating for quite a while, and enough people expressed interest that she hosted a cookie decorating party. I don't have the most patience in the world, but I can see how this would be a really fun activity to do, as long as there was adequate time to work on them.

I ended up decorating 18 cookies but this one was one of my favorites

On Saturday night, we're heading to my parent's house for an early birthday dinner for meeeee! Can't wait to celebrate with them!

Grandparents, Birthdays, and Sprinklers, Oh MY!

What a whirlwind week we've had...I was trying to get everything wrapped up at work so I could take my 5-day "furlough" from last Wednesday, through tomorrow. Wednesday was my first day at home, so Ava and I had a ton of "fun" getting everything ready for the upcoming activities. I did have a wonderful massage, so that started my vacation off very well... Gramma Karen and Grampa Doug drove in from KC on Wednesday afternoon. We had a great evening catching up, and enjoying the nice weather (until the downpour that happened right as they were leaving our house!) On Thursday, Scott, Dad, Mom, and I drove down to Cannon Falls and Rochester to check out the areas for potential future homes/land for us. At some point, we'd like to move south of the Cities. Ava was a very good little girl, especially considering that she was stuck in a car for most of her FIRST BIRTHDAY!!! We went to Applebee's for lunch, and the wait staff came out singing to someone else...I...

The Early Bird

I realized that I skipped a chunk of pictures that I wanted to share...things were super busy last weekend, so we'll blame my lapse of memory on that! The focus was so much on Ava's party, that I neglected to share the family birthday photos, too. Two weeks ago, we invited all of the grandparents over for a wonderful dinner of smoked prime rib (and other yummy sides), and then topped it off with a raspberry mojito birthday cake for the newly minted eight-year-old. We like to experiment with different birthday cake flavors for her birthday, and this one was MUCH better than the watermelon cake from last year (gross-gross-gross!)      Saying cheese with Grandpa Doug! G and I took a break from the present pics to take some selfies ;) Even his cars made an appearance! Super excited to be receiving an aquascope! And no birthday is complete without something from American Girl - this time is was a pizza party set - awesome! We have also...

Scooter's Slippers

It's been a crappy week.  There was another round of layoffs at BI, and one of my favorite people to work with was let go.  So, now the office won't be nearly as fun - but I'm thankful to still have a job. It's hunting opener up north, so Scott has been gone all weekend, but he did get a deer yesterday!  He got one a few weeks ago down south with his bow, as well.  I'm not really sure where we're going to put all of this venison!  With our wood floors, Ava's been slipping and sliding around a lot in her socks, so I decided she need a pair of slippers.  The bottoms are pretty fluffy, so it's going to take some time to mold them to her feet.  In the meantime, Scooter the Cat loves wearing them!    Ava was having fun piling up Scooter, Dollie, and Elmo into the rocking chair.  I wonder if she's too young to play with my Cabbage Patch Dolls??  I know Scott's hoping for a tomboy, but she might like playing with dolls, t...
