Mom & G Day - 3rd Edition

Last weekend was a blast...G and I went over to a friend's house on Saturday afternoon. They used to be our neighbors but built a house in a new neighborhood several months ago. It was really neat seeing their new house, and giving G and Abby a chance to play together. And then later that night, we hung out with the neighbors and enjoyed a late night bonfire and s'mores.

We were so busy this week with all the activities: swimming, taekwondo, RHSMB rehearsal. brass sectionals, RHSMB family picnic, carpools, work, sleep, LIFE! Throw in a dentist appointment, and a brand new (to G) field trip camp, and wow, the week flew by. G went to Skateville on Monday, Nickelodeon Universe at the MoA on Tuesday, Skyzone on Wednesday, and Grand Slam on Thursday. FUN!

I took Friday off so G and I could have our third annual "Mom & G Day". We started with a trip to Caribou for some beverages to kick the day off, and then we headed to the Bell Museum on the U of M St Paul campus. We loved exploring the dioramas, and all of the cool exhibits they had there. But the real highlight of our trip was the planetarium show about astrobiology. It was really cool and educational.

Not sure what this is, but G created it, and he wanted me to take a pic of it

After that, we headed to the MoA and ate some lunch, went to the M&M store, the LEGO store, and DSW (G's feet grew so much this past year...his toes are almost sticking through the end of his current tennis shoes!) We also went on the Flyover Hawaii ride, and loved it just as much as the others we've gone on (Flyover America and Soarin' Around the World.) It was a wonderful day spent with G. Love that time with him!

We laughed at the label on this one

Ava kept herself plenty busy...she even applied for her first job! We'll see if she gets an interview. Keep those fingers crossed! She and a bunch of friends went to the Barbie movie on Friday night. They got all dressed up and had an amazing time. She LOVED the movie, and is so happy that she has at least two more chances to see it (next weekend with another friend group, and then eventually with me.) Ava went to a sleepover after the Barbie movie, and claims she got enough sleep, but I'm not buying it. She has a trumpet party tonight, so hopefully she'll hold it together long enough to be social and fun there.

On Sunday, we need to get her packed up and ready to head off to Band Camp at St John's University. This is the first time the RHSMB has offered band camp in several years, so everyone is really excited for this bonding experience. We're looking forward to hearing how it goes, and then watching their final performance on Friday afternoon.

On Saturday morning, Scott, G, and I participated in the first Leprechaun Days event for the 2023 season...the Waffle Breakfast at the Fire Station! As always, it was so good, and we enjoyed getting out into the community. After that, Scott headed out to work, and G and I attempted pickleball. We need to study the rules a bit...and then maybe we'll have more luck next time, haha!

I tackled cleaning the siding and the trim on the front porch. When the front porch flooring was replaced a few weeks ago, it ended up getting really dirty, and needed a good bath. I didn't realize how much dirt had accumulated until I washed it all off. Yuck!

Scott and I might be going out tonight, since Ava will be gone, and G's old enough to stay home a bit by himself. It just all depends on how we feel after this busy Saturday! If anything, I know we're both looking forward to a more relaxed day at home tomorrow.

Goodbye Sweet Spanky

This is a post that I'm not very excited to write.  As you probably know, our oldest dog, Spanky, had struggled with health issues (ear infections, seizures) his whole life, and recently, his health had severely deteriorated.  He hadn't been eating, his ear infection was so severe his face was swollen, he had a hard time getting up the stairs, and he very rarely wanted to play.  Last week we got a few tail wags from him, and he ate a few bowls of food, but it was a 50-50 chance that he would actually keep the food down. On Thursday, we made the decision that if he wasn't any better by this weekend, we were going to put him down.  I know Scott didn't want to make that decision as Spanky was a very special dog to him - he truly was his little buddy, following him around everywhere, wanting to be wherever Scott was, and howling his sadness whenever Scott would leave him. Throughout Friday night, it became clear that Spanky wasn't going to have a miraculous recovery...

Happily Ever After?

Lately, I've been adding to the Disney Princess movies in our collection.  Last week I bought Beauty and the Beast for Ava.  That was never a favorite movie of mine, but now that I've seen it several times in the last week, it's growing on me.  I figure this is a good chance for me to catch up on some of the stories that I missed out on! Watching all of these princess movies has me thinking about fairy tales...why is it that it's always the evil stepMOTHER?  Or the mom is dead, and no one has taken her place?  Very rarely is it the father who is evil, or dead.  This has actually come up as a topic in more than one conversation lately, and has me a bit intrigued.  Fairy tales are often not very happy - and usually someone dies at some point.  I was a giving an overview of Snow White to a friend of mine, and as I was going through the story, both of us were horrified at the message - mom dies, evil stepmother wants to murder her pretty stepdaugh...

26 Hours in a Day

Just yesterday morning, I was thinking to myself that I could really use a few more hours each day.  We don't sleep a whole lot, both work long hours at our jobs, try to play with Ava as much as we can at night and on the weekends, and then we have to do all of the adult-stuff...paying bills, grocery shopping, cleaning, work on side jobs, house projects, etc.  If there were only 26 hours in a day, we could: *Sleep just an extra 30 minutes - we need it since the dogs have been waking us up each weekend day at 5:30am.  What could be SO urgent that they need to get us up then?!?  You'd think we only feed them once a week, or something. *Spend an extra hour with Ava...we could go to the park every night, take an extra long bath, read a few extra stories, and just enjoy the giggles and chattiness. *Take 30 minutes to talk to each other about how things are going.  With Scott leaving for work each day before 5am, and then all of the craziness that ensues wh...
