Shadow Dog

The last full week of school just wrapped up, and we're all thankful for the quieter days ahead. Well, I shouldn't say quiet. Let's go with different...many activities, but most of them fun!

Ava's final, district-wide track meet was this past Wednesday. She didn't run in any events, but she did participate in discus and shotput. Even better is that both the Rosemount Boys and Girls teams won the track meet...that wouldn't surprise me given the sheer size and talent in the track & field group. It's no wonder that the RHS Track & Field team has amazing results, too, when there are kids like this feeding into it!

She also squeezed in TKD and another marching band practice during the school nights. It's getting more and more difficult to find time to schedule appointments for her, as her time is booking up so quickly. I have a feeling the next four years are going to fly by. WAHHHHHH!

Doing some shopping after the track meet

G also had a fun and busy week. On Tuesday, Grandpa Doug, Grandma Karen, and Grandma Deb visited G during Grandparents Day at school. They were able to play with him on the playground, meet some of his friends, and enjoy lunch with him. And to wrap up the week, all elementary grades had access to multiple bouncy houses and games on Friday, plus they got ice cream in their classrooms! Parents were invite to attend, so I joined in to watch G bounce all around and have fun in the sun.

G earned his first stripe for his orange belt, and he helped out by holding the boards when the white belts broke them!

He wanted this hug, I promise!

Little Princess Pria just keeps showing us her personality every day. She still loves jumping up onto beds and couches, and snuggling in...when she feels like it. When we're out on walks, she always stares at other dogs when she sees them. Like, to the point where it's creepy. But this week, she let a dog come up and sniff her and she didn't freak out. Hopefully, she'll get to the point where she can actually play and have fun with other dogs. I think she wants to, considering how much she watches them...but I don't think she knows HOW to play.

Kinda on her bed?

Ava and I took Pria on a long walk, and we noticed her shadow was really funny. It reminds us of something...like a cartoon dog with a long nose, but we can't figure out exactly what it is.

I'm finally getting over a bad sinus infection. The end of the Memorial Day weekend was not so much fun for me...I mostly just sat on the couch and tried to watch tv, sleep, not cough, etc. I finally broke down and had a virtual doctor appointment at 6am on Monday morning. She prescribed meds, but of course all of the pharmacies were closed! But, I'm on the mend, and slowly getting back to a better nights sleep.

Poor Scott has been banished from the bedroom (he wouldn't want to be in the same room with me with how much coughing I am doing...even Pria sighs at me, when I've been coughing for too long.) I think he's looking forward to a decent nights sleep in our bed in the near future. He's been working so much lately, so it'll be good for him to take it easy and get some rest.

Three more school days, and we'll officially have a high schooler (gasp) and a 3rd grader! I'm not certain where the time is going, but it feels like it's flying by. I'm excited and happy and sad, all at the same time. I'm seeing the end of the tunnel for Ava's time with us, and the thought of not having her with us all of the time hurts my heart. But, I've been on the other side of that, so I know how exciting it is to go out on your own and make your own way in the world. I guess that's why it's important to enjoy every moment that we have with them!

Goodbye Sweet Spanky

This is a post that I'm not very excited to write.  As you probably know, our oldest dog, Spanky, had struggled with health issues (ear infections, seizures) his whole life, and recently, his health had severely deteriorated.  He hadn't been eating, his ear infection was so severe his face was swollen, he had a hard time getting up the stairs, and he very rarely wanted to play.  Last week we got a few tail wags from him, and he ate a few bowls of food, but it was a 50-50 chance that he would actually keep the food down. On Thursday, we made the decision that if he wasn't any better by this weekend, we were going to put him down.  I know Scott didn't want to make that decision as Spanky was a very special dog to him - he truly was his little buddy, following him around everywhere, wanting to be wherever Scott was, and howling his sadness whenever Scott would leave him. Throughout Friday night, it became clear that Spanky wasn't going to have a miraculous recovery...

Happily Ever After?

Lately, I've been adding to the Disney Princess movies in our collection.  Last week I bought Beauty and the Beast for Ava.  That was never a favorite movie of mine, but now that I've seen it several times in the last week, it's growing on me.  I figure this is a good chance for me to catch up on some of the stories that I missed out on! Watching all of these princess movies has me thinking about fairy tales...why is it that it's always the evil stepMOTHER?  Or the mom is dead, and no one has taken her place?  Very rarely is it the father who is evil, or dead.  This has actually come up as a topic in more than one conversation lately, and has me a bit intrigued.  Fairy tales are often not very happy - and usually someone dies at some point.  I was a giving an overview of Snow White to a friend of mine, and as I was going through the story, both of us were horrified at the message - mom dies, evil stepmother wants to murder her pretty stepdaugh...

26 Hours in a Day

Just yesterday morning, I was thinking to myself that I could really use a few more hours each day.  We don't sleep a whole lot, both work long hours at our jobs, try to play with Ava as much as we can at night and on the weekends, and then we have to do all of the adult-stuff...paying bills, grocery shopping, cleaning, work on side jobs, house projects, etc.  If there were only 26 hours in a day, we could: *Sleep just an extra 30 minutes - we need it since the dogs have been waking us up each weekend day at 5:30am.  What could be SO urgent that they need to get us up then?!?  You'd think we only feed them once a week, or something. *Spend an extra hour with Ava...we could go to the park every night, take an extra long bath, read a few extra stories, and just enjoy the giggles and chattiness. *Take 30 minutes to talk to each other about how things are going.  With Scott leaving for work each day before 5am, and then all of the craziness that ensues wh...
