Thanksgiving Blessings

We've had a fun week!  After Mommy had her night out to see New Moon on Monday, and a happy hour with co-workers on Tuesday, it was all family, all the time!  My parents drove up from KC to share in the Thanksgiving dinner with Scott's family (mom's side.)  As an added bonus, we were also able to spend part of Thanksgiving evening with the Goers' family (Scott's dad's side), too.  Needless to say, we were all full and wiped out by bedtime.  It's such a blessing to be able to spend both Thanksgiving and Christmas with my parents this year...that hasn't happened in a really long time - 15 years maybe??

We also managed to take our family picture for the Christmas card - of course it was FREEZING when we took it, so we weren't able to spend too long to get that "perfect" shot...but we're happy with the final results.

Here are a few pictures from the past few days:

Scott and I just finished putting up the tree...the lights, cranberry garland and tree skirt are in place, so tomorrow is all about the ornaments.  Although this may be a year where we put out only the soft ornaments, or maybe just the top of the tree will be decorated...Ava does love to play with things that she shouldn't!

We have just a few more gifts to pick up, and then the wrapping fun can begin.  This truly is the best time of the year...!

I think we'll be leaving the breakable ornaments off the tree this year too. :) That's so great that you will get to see your parents so much this holiday season!

Goodbye Sweet Spanky

This is a post that I'm not very excited to write.  As you probably know, our oldest dog, Spanky, had struggled with health issues (ear infections, seizures) his whole life, and recently, his health had severely deteriorated.  He hadn't been eating, his ear infection was so severe his face was swollen, he had a hard time getting up the stairs, and he very rarely wanted to play.  Last week we got a few tail wags from him, and he ate a few bowls of food, but it was a 50-50 chance that he would actually keep the food down. On Thursday, we made the decision that if he wasn't any better by this weekend, we were going to put him down.  I know Scott didn't want to make that decision as Spanky was a very special dog to him - he truly was his little buddy, following him around everywhere, wanting to be wherever Scott was, and howling his sadness whenever Scott would leave him. Throughout Friday night, it became clear that Spanky wasn't going to have a miraculous recovery...

Happily Ever After?

Lately, I've been adding to the Disney Princess movies in our collection.  Last week I bought Beauty and the Beast for Ava.  That was never a favorite movie of mine, but now that I've seen it several times in the last week, it's growing on me.  I figure this is a good chance for me to catch up on some of the stories that I missed out on! Watching all of these princess movies has me thinking about fairy tales...why is it that it's always the evil stepMOTHER?  Or the mom is dead, and no one has taken her place?  Very rarely is it the father who is evil, or dead.  This has actually come up as a topic in more than one conversation lately, and has me a bit intrigued.  Fairy tales are often not very happy - and usually someone dies at some point.  I was a giving an overview of Snow White to a friend of mine, and as I was going through the story, both of us were horrified at the message - mom dies, evil stepmother wants to murder her pretty stepdaugh...

We're Baaaaack!

Wow, I can't believe it's been almost 3 weeks since I've posted anything.  But, let's be honest - it's been a busy few weeks.  Clearly, I wasn't busy taking photos, as I only have 3 to show on this post.  Let's recap what's been going on in the Goers' household: New siding for our house...!  This is a project that we've been talking about doing for years, and we finally found someone that had the right product and the right price.  Our house is no longer a light peach color, it's Tuscan Clay with white accents.  It looks so shiny and fresh!  Now, we just need to work on our monster of a garage... I was in Palm Springs for eight, verrrrrry loooooong days.  I was staffing a travel program for one of my favorite clients, so at least I liked who I was supporting while there.  I hadn't traveled for work since May 2007, and honestly, I don't miss it.  I guess everything changes once you have a kid.  I missed Ava like crazy, and kept...
