A Week of Play Dates

We had a packed calendar this week - lots of family and friend playdates to look forward to.  Mommy even had a chance to get in a few hours at the driving range - I think I'm ready to golf nine holes now!  Needless to say, it was a fun, but busy week. Monday - we spent recovering from Ava's birthday party/Father's Day celebration.  We needed a night to catch up with things around the house! Tuesday - we had plans, but they were changed, so we had a free night to go to the playground down the street from us.  It was fun...except there were a lot of kids there, and no other adults.  Weird.  I became the person the kids came to when they needed help getting down from the equipment, or if they couldn't reach something.  Odd, especially since I'm not really a kid-friendly kind of person (anyone who knows me, knows this!)  Scott even stepped in and had to yell at a few teenagers to stop lighting the playground mulch on fire.  I felt so old...and responsible! Helllloooo Terrible Twos!

Oh yes, we officially have a two-year old.  And she's having fun throwing tantrums, yelling, pushing, and generally asserting her little self. But, that's ok - that's how she's going to grow up to be an amazing person.  It's just a little stressful right now.  One funny non-birthday story: last week, as we were giving her a bath, she threw her arms up in the air and yelled, "I'm AWESOME!"  And then she laughed.  Apparently we tell her that all of the time...nothing like giving a toddler an ego! We had a GREAT birthday weekend!  My parents came in from Colorado on Friday afternoon, so they were able to spend some time with Ava on her actual birthday.  They couldn't believe how much she had changed since they saw her last (Christmas.)  It's crazy how much 6 months can change a kid - especially when it's 25% of their life at that point. We also had Ava's two-year pictures taken on Saturday morning.  In the past, we have had a TON of pi

Mommy's Pooped

I am beat.  In fact, I am currently soaking my feet in a tub full of warm water.  Scott left for Canada late on Wednesday night (like 11:30pm late...)  He went to the Great White North with the Winfield family (sans Tiffany and Isabel, however) for their annual fishing trip. Now, I love my husband.  But every once in a while, I get really, REALLY excited to have the house to myself - well, Ava's here, as well as the three dogs, but still I am the ONLY adult.  And it's nice.  And things stay neat and tidy, just like I like them. BUT, on the flip side, I am the ONLY adult.  This means no "breaks" from watching Ava, or the dogs (and yes, they are work, too!)  It means stepping up and preparing all of the meals (Scott's the cook in our family - when I'm in charge, things get real simple...), doing all the housework, outdoor work, daycare dropoff/pickup, etc.  It's a lot of work.  Once again, these past few days makes me applaud all of the single parents out
