Four Month Checkup

Tonight we brought Ava in for her four month well baby visit. She's such a charming little girl, and is always complemented by the doctor and nurses about how content she is. Until they stick the needles in her - but, can you blame her??

Here are the current stats:
  • 25.5" long - 95th percentile
  • 14.4 lbs - 75th percentile
  • 16" head circumference - 40th percentile
Everything checked out great, and she even took the shots like a champ. She cried for a minute and stopped when I picked her up. By the time we got on the road, she was zonked out. We'll see how she sleeps tonight...

Here are some fun post-bath pictures from last night. I had dried her off, and all of a sudden she flipped over and looked like she was ready to go!

Cutie!

Striking a pose...

Look at me! I'm so cute!

On a sad note, there were several layoffs at my company today, so it's been a bit of a downer day. I'm hoping that everyone who was let go uses this as an opportunity to re-evaluate what they want in life, and really go after their dreams. Definitely a bummer. :(

On that note, I'm heading off to bed - all three of us are exhausted. Good night!

A New Toy!

Scott and I have finally had a chance to slow down and take a few minutes for ourselves these past few days. I realized that we hadn't cleaned/assembled the Jumperoo from Scott's cousin Josh. I washed everything up, and made sure it was at the right height for her. She seemed to like it better today than yesterday.

OMG! What IS this thing?? HOLD ON!

Oh, this "thing" has toys, so it can't be that bad. I guess.

The next project is to assemble her Exer-saucer. My question is, "Where are we going to put all of these HUGE toys??"

We're looking forward to this week - lots of big things are happening. Ava will go to her 4-month well baby visit, and she'll be getting the next round of vaccines. Hooray. I'll be sure to post how big she's getting.

We also have a Halloween party at her daycare on Thursday. We'll be bringing fruit snacks for the kids. However, we'll need to buy a new box of fruit snacks, as Mommy attacked the original box this weekend. Superman has kryptonite; Mommy has fruit snacks. :)

And on Halloween night, we'll be going to great-grandma's house for a birthday party, so we'll be able to spend some time with Scott's family.
Have a great week!

It's been a busy week!

This past week just flew by! I worked a bit of OT, which always makes the days go by fast, but this weekend was packed with fun activities.

Ava loves her waterfall soother that's in her crib - she's been turning it on and off with her feet.

On...

And off! (the waterfall is no longer lit up)

Friday night, we attempted to give Ava her first taste of rice cereal. The looks on her face as she tried the new taste (blah), and the new texture (smushy) were priceless! She kept pushing it out of her mouth with her tongue. I do think that some of it made its way down, tho. By the end of the meal, she was bawling, so I gave her a bottle to calm her down. We tried again tonight, and it went much better. She still had weird expressions, but she kept much more of it in this time.

What's this new treat??

YUCK!

Saturday morning, Scott, Ava and I went to the Minnesota Zoo for the Trick-or-Treat with animals adventure. Two of the moms from my Mommy & Me class this past summer also met up with us - it was great to catch up and see how all of the babies have grown. One of the moms works at the farm at the Zoo, so we learned a bunch of stuff about the zoo we never knew before. I think the neatest thing is that Dawn (the mommy) is on the Escaped Animals Team - if a tiger gets out, it's up to her to catch it. A little bit more dangerous than my desk job!

The three babies all slept through the zoo walk, but we had fun looking at the newest exhibit - Russia's grizzly coast. It was neat seeing new animals at the zoo, especially the bears.

I just loved how pretty this exhibit was - those buffalo sure do have it made!

The mommies - Holly, Dawn, & Dee

Oh, Mummy, really? I'm dressed as a chicken?

Dragon Jack (and Ava's future prom date - they got friendly at their last meeting!)

Jama...originally she was going to be a mermaid, but that darn tail got in the way of the carseat buckle. So, she's dressed as a baby. :)

Our sleeping chicken with some real chickens!

After our trip to see the animals, we headed down to the Winfield farm, and spent the rest of Saturday, and Sunday morning with friends. It was nice to get away from the city, and we even managed to play some table tennis. Scott even had the chance to go hunting twice - but he came back empty handed each time. Oh well, still several weekends left for killing innocent animals...!

And here we are again - Sunday night, and getting ready to give Ava a bath and bottle. And perhaps, we'll even get a decent night sleep!

Good night all!

Many updates...

It's been a busy week, so I haven't had a chance to post anything until now. Scott's up north hunting, Ava's sleeping, and FINALLY, I get a few minutes to myself. If I was smart, I'd be taking a bath, drinking some wine, and relaxing. But no, I'm catching up on email, updating this blog, and trying to ignore the pleading looks that Lucky is throwing me. I think she might be tired. Well, I am too, so after this, I'm off to bed!

Let's see - we had dinner with the Greg Goers' family last Sunday. Here's a cute pic of Tayla, Dawn and Ryley with Ava. We're only missing Greg!

And here's a pic with Tayla holding Ava...she's going to be a fabulous baby-sitter in a few years. She has a way with kids!

I had been wanting to get a Bumbo seat after seeing how much Isabel loved hers. But, I didn't want to pay $40 for a foam chair. So, I checked craigslist, and some guy was selling his brand-new one for $7. SOLD! He hadn't done any research on how much he should have sold it for, so I snapped it up. Apparently, he had at least 4 other calls for it, but lucky me, I'm the 1st one who he talked to. Check out Ava...I'm not sure if she likes it - she keeps trying to escape from it...

We've been trying to do more tummy time, and now that she can actually prop herself up, she pays attention to toys that are around her. I love this crib mirror toy. And she loves the bug that's on the lower right corner.

Looking very intently at herself in the mirror...

Hey! When did you get here?! (Apparently Mommy shows up in the oddest places...by the side of the crib, next to the swing, or while Ava's nursing...who knew Mommy was so sneaky??)

And a non-Ava update...I was feeding her the other day, and heard a weird noise in the house, but thought it was Scott (he was outside mowing the lawn.) I heard it a few more times, and then I heard Scott come in and yell. "What's this???" And my favorite, "NO! Not on the steaks!" A bird (it looked big to me, like a eagle, but Scott assured me it was just a swallow) flew into our house, and was flitting around our living room. And as you might have guessed, landed right on the plate where our dinner (steaks) were marinating. It ended up behind the fridge (always an easy place to shoo a bird from), and eventually flew outside. It was weird, and funny, and kind of gross, all at the same time. At least it wasn't a bat!

Well, this old lady's off to bed. Have a great Sunday!

Eating Hedgehogs and Picking Apples...

Last Thursday I went to a kid-oriented consignment sale with Tiff and Lisa, and bought some clothes and new toys for Ava. I found a 5' long rainbow colored caterpillar that makes noises - Lucky freaked out at it yesterday and started barking hysterically! Maybe we should let the dogs check it out before giving to Ava for Christmas!

I also picked up this brightly colored hedgehog (the dogs were VERY interested in this!)...I think Ava liked it, and then she tried to eat it!

Interesting...

But does it taste good??

Yesterday, we enjoyed one of the last nice fall days at the Afton Apple Orchard. Tiff, Darren and Isabel also came with us...it was a perfect day filled with fun, friends, and LOTS of apples! Tiff and I might get adventurous and make our 1st apple pie one of these days...:)

Ava, the Afton Cow, and Mommy-Cow (a.k.a. Dee)
At the Petting Zoo...maybe next year she'll actually pay attention to the goats!

Ava's first pumpkin!

So tired...and check out her hand in the "pocket" :)

It was the perfect way to celebrate our first fall with our new little girl.

Happy Sunday to all!
