Wednesday night was probably THE worst night we have had with Ava since we brought her home. For some reason, she couldn't stay asleep. We think she may have slept a total of 3 hours that night. The rest of the time she wanted us to be up with her...playing, talking, rocking, whatever she could think of. Needless to say, both Scott and I were very tired on Thursday.
So I went to pick her up after my exhausted day at work, and what do I see on her cheek? A bite mark from one of the little girls at daycare! I know she didn't mean for it to happen, and in fact, the little girl cried more than Ava did, but I still felt bad for our little peanut. After the girl bit her, Ava cried a little, and then smacked her away. I think we were both a little happy to hear she was defending herself - even though we won't encourage hitting!
She slept GREAT that night, as well as Friday night. Whew!
We've been working with Ava a lot getting her to practice standing. She's able to pull herself to a standing position holding on to her fingers. I've also been showing her how to hold onto the crib once she's upright...so it was not surprising (but still exciting) the other day, when she pulled herself up standing, in the crib, all on her own! We really need to babyproof this house!!
She actually used her mouth at one point to pull herself up. Seems a little risky, but it worked!
While Daddy went ice fishing today, Ava and I went out and purchased a big-girl car seat for her. I was set on an Evenflo, and then due to my discussions with the sales associate at Babies R Us, I decided to go with a Britax. And after she outgrows this one, we'll only need to get a booster for her when she hits 65lbs. Since this will be her carseat (no sharing with a sibling), I decided, for once, not to be practical with the fabric choice, and got something very girly...pink with brown polka dots! She seems to like it - check out the photos from the test run in our living room. :)
She's sleeping away right now, and I am so happy to finally have some time to get things done. Wheeeee!
Have a wonderful, warm weekend!

This afternoon we took her to Children's Hospital in St Paul for her follow-up with the cardiologist. Much to our relief, he said that she is doing great! He wasn't able to hear the murmur, which is exactly what we wanted. If she ever participates in sports, she will not need to note this as an abnormality. Yay, she's healthy!
Well, except for her cold. But, we'll take that any day over a heart condition. :)

Well, I'm 99% healed from bronchitis, but now Ava has a cold. We just can't win here...although Scott has somehow managed to squeak by without getting sick.
Ava has her 2nd part of the flu shot tomorrow night, so we will probably have an updated weight for her. Let's see how much this little piggy weighs now! She's loving the fruits so far - applesauce and peaches have been a hit!
She also has her 6 month follow up with the cardiologist on Tuesday - we're sure everything will be ok, but just in case, keep her in your prayers!
Ava's been sleeping hard at night, and I love seeing her little sleepy face in the morning. She's just so peaceful, warm, and content - check out this cute shot.
We've stopped bringing her to daycare in her carseat (don't fret, it's just 2 houses down from us, so no driving), which means I needed to find a good way to bundle her up to keep her warm. With the 20 below temps we had last week, I finally had a great reason to pull out her 2 snowsuits. Those are great gifts that I wasn't sure we'd ever get to use. They sure do keep her warm!
This morning, Scott and I were having breakfast, and Ava wanted to be closer to us than in her high chair (which is right next to the table, but whatever.) This is just the cutest pic (in my opinion, of course!) Every time I went to take a picture, she smiled - I think we've trained her well! Scott, however, was a different case - it took 3 pics for him to be looking normal into the camera. :)
She's officially crawling now - hooray! And she is making it a regular practice to pull herself to a standing position holding onto my hands. I'm absolutely enthralled with this learning process that she's going through - she never ceases to amaze me!
Stay warm, sleep well, and be happy!

And I actually feel more like myself than I have in several weeks, thank goodness!
So that means I have energy to post to the blog...let's see, what's new?
- Ava has started to crawl - granted, it's not a quick crawl, but she's still getting the hang of it. Tonight she managed to scoot around her room with her little naked butt up in the air (I had just given her a bath, and she is really resisting diapering these days. :( )
- She has tried all of the veggies, and seems to like them all. YIPPEE! With that under our belt, we moved onto fruits this morning...she made the oddest face when she got a mouthful of applesauce. And then she couldn't get enough of it. I'm so glad we don't have a picky eater (yet.)
- She's propping herself up on one arm now, and reaching for things in the air - like her mobile, my hair, Scott's nose, whatever. Those little nails are SO sharp!
- She's doing great at sitting on her own - it makes bath time so much easier. Speaking of baths, check out our little splash monster in the video below.
- Ava and I went to the spa today...she watched very intently while I got my brows waxed. She wanted to make sure I wasn't getting hurt! Scott thought it would be cute if she got a mani while she was there. I don't think so!
- Her little legs are getting so strong - she gets a serious workout in the Jumperoo...see the video!
Scott's out ice fishing now, which means I had her all to myself tonight. And once she went to bed, I had no idea what to do. So, this is it - posting to the blog, and probably a movie next.Have a great weekend!

She's also learning how to blow raspberries. Not so pretty.
What happens when you mix a spoonful of green beans with a fresh, bubbly raspberry? See the video below for the answer...
I see messy, messy mealtimes in our future...!
Ava went off on her first overnight to Grandma Deb's house - thank goodness she was a perfect angel the whole time. When we got home last night, the house felt very empty without her there, and our bedroom was so quiet without the monitor on. We were very happy to pick her up this morning, but we're pleased to know that she did so well at Grandma's house!
As for Scooty and me, we went to Tiffany and Darren's house, and rang in the new year with them, as well as Megan and Erik. We ate some yummy snacks, played a few games, and just had fun catching up since the holidays have been so busy. PLUS, we hadn't seen Megan and Erik in forever since they moved out west of the cities.
