Mish Mash

What did we do this week?  Couldn't tell ya!  The days are flying by fast, that's all I know.  Well, I can say that I visited my friends Megan and Erik, and had a chance to meet their new baby girl (Nora.)  That was pretty fun, plus, we now have someone to give all of Ava's clothes to!  Win-win!

Woohoo - footings for the deck have been poured!

Hanging out in another leaf pile...

Having fun with static electricity!

Ava and G headed over to Grandma Deb and Grandpa Whitey's house on Friday after school/daycare, so Scott and I headed out for a nice dinner at Porter Creek in Burnsville.  It was very nice to have an adult night out!  We stopped at a local bar on the way home, and marveled that people were out past 9:30pm on a Friday night.  Clearly, we need to get out more.

On Saturday morning, I headed to downtown St Paul with my friend Amy, and we participated in the Monster Dash 5k.  We ran and walked during this race, and we're hoping that for the next one, we can get the running to be more than 50% of the race!  Amy and I dressed up as cats (she was a pink leopard and I was a princess kitty) and we had a blast people/costume watching.  It was a great event!  Plus, they give you a beer at the end, so that was a nice way to end the race.

I picked up Ava and G later on Saturday afternoon, and then came home and took a nap.  I was pooped.  The nap was necessary though, because we had a bonfire and s'mores last night.  A neighbor stopped over and we had a nice chat with him...and talked a bit more about the upcoming plans for a neighborhood party.  Yeah!

Might be the last bonfire of the

I think this was G's first bonfire!

It would have been wise if we had taken Sunday off, and just relaxed around the house...but did we?  Of course not!  Scott has been working on cleaning/sealing our garage floor, so Ava and I headed to the Minnesota Zoo to meet up with some friends.  The zoo was putting on a Halloween event, so we even got in some trick or treating, and face painting.  Plus, it was REALLY great to see our friends, and I ran into another friend (and her kids) while we were in the Tropics area.  We made a stop at the library on the way home, and are finally getting a chance to spend some time around the house.  Can't get much better on a beautiful Sunday afternoon!

Not the greatest pic of Isabel and Ava (the two girls in pink on the right) but I LOVED the little Yoda right in front of them.  Soooo cute!

Hanging out by the shark tank (Isabel, Ava and Lynkoln)

Face painting fun, but...where are the smiles Ava and Lynkoln??

Riding a wolf!

The joys of parenting never end...G just managed to pull off his pants, and Ava discovered that he left a gooey surprise in there for us.  Time to go!

Lovely Leaves

Had to take a little break from blogging last week due to some unfortunate circumstances that took place on Sunday, but we're back on track now!

Ava had been asking about jumping in the leaves in our backyard (and now that we have sod, she totally can!)  Scott raked up the leaves last weekend, and she went to town.  Scott then mowed them all up, but when I look outside now, there are even more on the ground...and one of our cottonwood trees still has a ton of leaves on it that haven't dropped yet...more fun for Ava!  (And more mowing for Scott!)

This time of year is so pretty in Minnesota - love all of the vivid colors!

It was a super busy week...I had something going on every night after work Mon, Tues, and Wed, and by Thursday night, all I wanted to do was come home and stare at the wall.  Ava didn't have school on Thursday or Friday, so on Thursday we sent her off with the YMCA school release program...they went to an apple orchard, had donuts, apple cider, and explored the sunflower maze onsite.  She had a great time!  And then on Friday, both kids were home with me for the day.  We visited with Grandma Deb and Grandpa Whitey for a bit on Friday afternoon, and then visited with some neighbors from the old 'hood for a few hours.  What a great way to kick off the weekend!

On Saturday the kids and I met up with Emilie and had fun at the new outlet mall in Eagan.  The kids did amazingly well until G decided it was time to go...right in the middle of Eddie Bauer.  So, we went!  Well, we made a stop at the cookie store (Ava) and the kettle corn place (Emilie) and THEN we headed out.  There is a restaurant in Rosemount that we had both wanted to try, and figured it was the perfect time to check it out.  The House of Curry was very yummy...although, Ava didn't care so much for it, but G had a great time eating some of my chicken curry and basmati rice.  And both Em and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals.  Plus, the service was good AND entertaining.  Overall, it was a great new food experience!

Did I mention I got a new camera?  I finally had a chance to play around with it - Ava's already tired of me taking pictures of her. :)

G looks a little concerned in this one...

We had quite the mani/pedi session yesterday morning - each finger/toe has a different color on it, with corresponding sparkles...

This little guy needs a haircut!

Being silly!

Really avoiding the camera...look at that hair!

Great pic of Ava and Emilie!

Should be a gorgeous day today - lots of sunshine and clear skies.  Happy Sunday!

They were in the way!

Got a call from Ava's 1st grade teacher last week...usually when I get a call from the school, it means she's sick, and needs to be picked up.  But this call came in at 3:45pm...after school was out.  Mrs. M told me that she noticed Ava looked a bit different, but didn't think too much about it.  (Note: she was laughing while telling me this story, so I figured whatever it was couldn't be too bad...)  She then proceeded to tell me that a little girl came up to her and informed her that Ava had cut her bangs over the trash.  When Mrs. M asked Ava why she did that, Ava responded with, "They were in the way, so I cut them off!"  And that's that!

Here are my thoughts:
  1. Right before school started, Ava and I talked about growing her bangs out.  I explained this meant they would be in the way until they were long enough to pull back with the rest of her hair.  She agreed.  But really, I don't think she did.
  2. Hey, she did it over the trash - at least she's tidy!  If she had left little bang-hairs everywhere, that would have been annoying.
  3. On the bright side, we had already had school pics taken.  On the potential dark side...we didn't know how the pictures were going to turn out.  (Now we do...see below!)
  4. Overall, she didn't too badly!  We'll need to take her somewhere to get them blended, or something, but now it just looks like she has some fringe.
  5. I really, really thought we had missed that stage...she has always been such a good kid.  Very rarely breaking things, never coloring on the walls, never destroying things that she shouldn't...including her hair...
  6. Oh well, it's just hair - it will grow back! :)
Looking pretty proud of herself...

We had a lovely weekend last week...but it seems that someone is ready for winter to get here!

1st grade picture - not too bad, so no retakes needed...whew! Although I did ask her why she was raising her eyebrows so much.  There wasn't really a response to that question...

Scott headed up north on Friday to try to get in some bow hunting.  I talked to him once he got up there, and he said it was snowing/raining (gross.)  When I talked to him last night he said he hadn't been out hunting, but he got his deer stand up, and they worked hard, cutting 4 cords of wood.  I didn't know exactly how much wood that was, but after some discussion, I realized it's a whole bunch!

While he was gone, I've had fun with the kids...movies, popcorn, playing, etc.  Grandma Karen and Grandpa Doug came over last night for a bit.  They will be leaving for Colorado this coming week, so we wanted to squeeze in another visit.  We'll also be getting together today, and Scott will be putting my dad to work, either working on the footings for the deck, or working on the retaining wall.  Mom and I will be going to the new nearby premium outlets to check things out!

Hanging out in his exersaucer...he's getting to be too big for it!

My handsome little man

Ava had so much fun with G's tunnel (although it was her tunnel to begin with!)

G did not want to go through, instead he went around it...

...and around...

I was woken up yesterday morning by Ava singing, quite loudly, "Good morning, good morning, good morning to Mommy!"  I suppose that's much better than being woken up due to screaming from a killer mosquito attacking her in her room.  Right?  Either way...I wanted to be sleeping. :)

G is getting his top two teeth, and he's been quite chatty lately.  His favorite word is "YEAH!"  with a heavy emphasis on the "eah" part.  The other day I'm pretty sure he said "hi" and of course there's my favorite "Mama-mama-mama..." He says that a lot when I'm changing his diaper.  I'm going to choose to think he's talking about me, and not the squishy surprises he leaves for us.

Right now, Ava and G are upstairs - one of them is talking and the other one is squealing...and I don't know which one is which!  Hopefully your Sunday is starting off a bit more quietly than mine. :)
