FIVE (and a few other things...)

Finally, I have a chance to sit down, relax and collect my thoughts.  We've had a whirlwind last two weeks, with lots and lots and LOTS of stuff going on!

Our Little Girl isn't so little anymore...she's the big FIVE now!  And she seems to think that being five comes with new privileges, like not listening, or being super sassy, and always getting her way.  Little does she realize that both her mom and dad have been five before, and for the most part (not always...sigh) can outsmart her!

She woke up on her big day (June 18) with a fever, so I was pretty bummed (for her) that she had to spend her birthday at home with me (and then in the afternoon with Great-Grandma - which was totally fine) instead of celebrating at summer camp with her little friends.  At one point, I said to her, "I'm sorry this isn't turning out to be a great birthday."  And she looked at me, totally confused and with fever-glazed eyes, and replied, "It's fine...it's sunny out!"  All of a sudden, I had a new respect for my daughter - leave it to a kid to focus on the positive in what could be a not-so-fun situation.  She teaches me something every day!

We did get to have her super exciting dinner of mac-n-cheese, buttered corn, and yogurt, with cupcakes for dessert, and then we topped it off with present opening, so she was really wound up that night!  And luckily, she was all better the next day to go to school!

The next weekend, we were blessed with a beautiful Saturday night, and I just happened to have all the fixins for s'mores...YUM!!

This is probably the biggest spider I have ever seen at a house...you can't tell here but its eyes are a bright teal.  The thing was probably the size of a quarter!

This just made me laugh as the reflection of the flames made it look like a crown of fire on Lucky's head.  It's the little things in life, right? :)

And then, to top off this great weekend, we had Ava's little "friends" birthday party at Michael's on Sunday afternoon.  They painted t-shirts, did face/arm painting, colored, ate cake and ice cream, and even sang to Ava over the intercom at the store.  Overall, all the little girls seemed to like it, and Ava couldn't have been happier!  (Personally, I was happy since the mess was not at my house, and I didn't have to worry about paint and glitter everywhere!)

So excited to start the party!

I asked Ava to put my shoes away...instead they became very secure vehicles for Barbie and Ken.  This totally made me laugh the other morning.

Now, there were several other things that were happening over the last two weeks that weren't focused on Ava's 5th birthday.  For example, we had our level 2 ultrasound done...the baby is healthy, measuring exactly right (20 weeks, 5 days), and we were happy to find out it's a BOY!  Scott, especially, looked a bit relieved, although he sheepishly said it would have been fine had it turned out to be a girl.  Ava's super excited to have a little brother, and I'm excited to experience what it's like to have a son...we cannot wait to meet the new little guy in November!!

Smiling already...!  In this one, I think he looks like Ava...it'll be interesting to see what he looks like when born.

And, on non-child news...we had our pre-dig meeting last week, which means the next steps are to build the house!  They are looking at digging the hole the week of July 8, with a completion date in mid-October.  Let's hope for no delays on this, or the fall is going to get really crazy!

I'm sure there's more, but my brain has been on vacation the last two days - it needed to recover!

Father's Day / Birthday!

We had AMAZING weather today for Father's Day!  After an endless stream of rainy, gloomy days, the sun came out today, and there were blue skies and sunshine for most of the day.  Scott really wanted to smoke some meat today, and the weather cooperated.  I even took a break from my never-ending to-do list, and sat outside for a few hours, soaking up the warmth, and chatting with Scott, while Ava napped.  It was a fantastic afternoon!

Actually, it's been a pretty great week.  Ava's first week of summer camp was a blast, and she's already made new friends with some of the new girls in her class.  We're also prepping for her 5th birthday party next weekend...should be a fun time with some of her little friends!

I had Friday afternoon off of work, and went out to lunch and did some shopping with my friend Emilie.  I got some really cute maternity clothes, and I'm hoping that will get me through the next several months...without getting too bored of my wardrobe.  Ha!  We finished off the night by picking up Ava, and taking her to Cherry Berry.  She got quite the concoction of Cookie Monster-Birthday Cake-Strawberry-Mango Sorbet...and lots of sprinkles and fruit.  Yum?  But, she enjoyed it, and in the meantime, she ended up making a new friend with a little boy who was there.  We overheard their discussion about how each of their moms was going to be having a new baby soon...pretty funny!

Saturday morning started off with Scott's wallet going missing...right when he was trying to leave to get to work.  Ava was on the couch, watching the iPad while we were frantically searching the house.  After 20 minutes, I asked Ava if she had seen his wallet and she fessed up that she had hid it in the closet.  Even though this delayed Scott by 30 minutes, all we could do was laugh...such a sneaky girl!

Yesterday afternoon, we went to Scott's cousin's graduation party, where we had awesome food, and had a chance to catch up with family. Ava had a blast running around with the older kids...it was a very nice way to spend a Saturday night.

We had Grandma Deb, Grandpa Whitey and Great-Grandma Addy over for dinner tonight...part Father's Day celebration / part early-birthday celebration for Ava.  Ava was all wound up when it was time to open gifts...I can hardly wait to see what she'll be like throughout this week, with all of her little parties!

Enjoying a freezy-pop!

19 weeks!

SOOO excited!

This week is going to be so crazy, but at least it will be fun! Happy early 5th birthday to our sweet little girl!

Pre-School Graduation

It's official...Ava's done with pre-school and headed off to Kindergarten in the fall.  Thursday was their last day of school for the year, and then they start "Summer Camp at the Tree House" on Monday.  To mark this big transition, Maple Tree had their first graduation ceremony this past Monday.  We were incredibly lucky and were blessed with sunshine - amazing for a summer that has barely been around, with rainy gray skies almost every day!

All of the pre-k kids walked down to the Central Square amphitheater, and waited patiently while their names were called.  Once they were called up, they received their diploma, walked over a little bridge, and did their best to curtsy/bow.  Ava had a bit of trouble with the curtsy - but she's been practicing bowing at home, so I wasn't really sure what she was going to do!

The kids then sang a cute little song for all of the parents, and threw their hats up in the air.  Unlike older students however, as soon as their hats landed on the ground, the kids scurried around to pick them up and bring them to the teachers.  So obedient at that age... :)

We wrapped up the event with a picnic lunch and a bit of time at the playground.  It was a bit weird leaving Ava on the swings and heading back into work, but, she was ready to have me leave so she could focus on playtime with her friends.

I'm so proud of everything that she has accomplished this year.  We received a packet where she had drawn a picture of herself and written her name at the beginning of the school year, and then she did the same at the end of the year.  It was amazing seeing how far she has progressed in her art and writing skills.  It's been a great year for Ava!

Better.  Sorta.

It's been a great week, otherwise...busy at work, and busy at home.  I'm 18 weeks pregnant and went in for my genetic testing yesterday.  We should find out next week how things are looking for Baby #2...fingers crossed that all is well and healthy!  My level 2 ultrasound will be scheduled in about three weeks, and since I'm of an "Advanced Maternal Age", they will perform the u/s at a hospital instead of my clinic.  If all goes well, we'll be able to determine the gender at that time, too.  YAY!  Everyone has an idea of what we're having this time, so we'll see who is right!
