Easter...a little late!

Where did April go?  Last I checked, it was Good Friday, and now it's going to be May next week.  Granted, I knew coming in to April that it was going to be a busy month, but I didn't think it would fly by quite so quickly!

Easter was very fun this year!  We had a hard time keeping Ava out of the rest of the house until all of the eggs were ready to be found.  I was a little concerned about the dogs getting into the candy-filled eggs, but we managed to keep things under control (and out of doggie mouths.)

Ava had a BLAST looking for all the eggs. I'm so happy that I counted the eggs before I hid them, as the last one was REALLY hard to find - I hid it too well!  But, I need to give her some credit - she looked in places that I thought would have been too hard for her to locate.  Next's on!  Let's see how good her tracking skills really are!

My favorite place that she looked was UNDER Darla.  More than once, she went up to Dar, and tried to get under her to look.  And St Darla just laid there and let her.  For the millionth time, what a good dog...

The Easter Bunny tried to keep the basket under control this year...and we tried to take the focus off the candy.  She only got jelly beans in the plastic eggs, and chocolate-covered sunflower seeds.  But, then she got some other really fun non-food stuff.  I LOVE this dress...I think this is what she'll be wearing for her 4-year photos.

On the hunt!

Is it there?  Nope!

Good start, Ava!

How about under Darla?  Good try!

We had a great Easter dinner at Scott's grandma's house...lots of family, great food, and happily, not a ton of candy!

This is a cute look...a fluffy skirt, no top, and a furry puppy.  It certainly makes her happy!

After Easter, we had a really busy week, which led up to me leaving for Vegas for a week.  And then my birthday.  And continuing to work on the house.  Seriously, non.stop.busy.  But it's all fun and good, so I'm not complaining!

We're Going to the Zoo, Zoo, Zoo!

We didn't have daycare yesterday (Good Friday), so Ava and I decided to head to the Minnesota Zoo to meet up with some friends.  It was, literally, a zoo there!  We stood in line for 30 minutes just to get INTO the zoo!  I was pretty happy with how patient Ava was...I was beginning to get a little nutty, so I'm happy she held it together for the two of us.

Once we got in though, we had a blast!  We met up with my friend, Lisa, and her two boys, Dylan and Jake.  As an extra-nice bonus, one of my co-workers, Amy, decided to join us for a bit, too.  She has two boys (Spencer and Payton), right around Dylan and Jake's age, so it was 4 little boys and Ava. :)

Within minutes of getting there, Ava and Dylan were holding hands, walking together.  I have NO idea how that happened so quickly, but for some reason, I'm not surprised.  In fact, it reminded me a lot of the first time they met...Dylan was maybe 2 weeks old, so Ava would have been 6 weeks old.  Before we knew it, she had reached out and grabbed his hand in the crib...I still love that huge grin she has on her face!

Future prom dates!

3.5 years later...
(thanks for the pic, Lisa!)

Checkin' out the fish!

Dylan's turn!

(and thank you again for the pic, Lisa!)

Lisa and Jake

In the CrAzY chicken house!  Seriously, it was nuts in there.

It's hard work walking so far...oh wait, it was actually more work for Lisa to haul these three around at the end!

We definitely had a good time, and all that fresh air helped to wear out both Ava and me.  She got a little cranky at one point, and Dylan had to ask her a few minutes later if she was done being cranky.  Ah, how boys learn so early that girls can be crabby one minute, and fine the next!

I think my very favorite story from the day is when Lisa noticed that Jake had half a cookie hanging out on his shoulder.  Lisa made a joke about it, Ava didn't understand why it was funny, and Dylan piped up with "Let me tell you why it's funny...the cookie was on his shoulder, and he wasn't eating it..."  I LOVE the fact that he took the time to explain the joke to Ava...I'm still giggling at that now.

There was also those 10 minutes where Ava was crabby and would contradict everything anyone would say.  Lisa said, very quietly to me, "This sun feels so good!"  And Ava, very quietly said, "No, it doesn't."  So then Lisa tried some reverse pyschology and told Ava how much she hated the sun, to which Ava responded, "Me too."  Ya know, for as crabby and sassy as Ava can be at times, she sure does make me laugh.

And I'm seeing more and more of me in her, which is a scary thing...gotta learn to keep the drama and emotions in check, kid! :)

We're getting excited about Easter tomorrow...we're meeting up with my friend Corinne for church, and then heading over to Great-Grandma Addy's house for a family dinner.  Should be a GREAT day!  We'll need to fit in a little Easter egg hunt around the house at some point, though...which reminds me...the Easter bunny needs to hop (haha) to it, and get that basket ready!

Happy Easter!

Two Little Princesses

Every little girl loves stickers, it seems.  This mom is not so crazy about them - just because they turn up in odd places, or in the laundry, and by then, it might be too late!  The other day I found a tiny bone sticker in our office, right next to the door.  Makes me wonder how long it had been there and I hadn't noticed!

So, when my parents send Ava holiday cards, I have mixed feelings when they always come with stickers.  BUT, because Ava enjoys sticking them on things, I just try to get over it.  Sigh.  This week, it was a bit contained, because as soon as her Easter card arrived, she immediately stuck both pages of stickers to the card.  I found her trying to put one on her leg when she ran out of room on the card, but that was the only oddball.

Gramma Karen and Grampa Doug - these are for you!

I love, love, love how Ava falls asleep, right in the middle of what she's doing, no matter how uncomfortable it might be.  This book that she was reading is one of my favorites - it's all about a beagle who wants to do what the owners do.  Wonder if I can get our dogs to read it!?

Yesterday, we all drove down to Grand Meadow to see our friends, the Winfield family.  Scott and Ava dropped me off in Rochester so Tiffany and I could get facials, and then they continued on to start grilling dinner with Darren, Isabel and Evy.  Darren's parents and sister also joined us, so it was a full house for the evening - but as always, a VERY fun time!

It has been so much fun watching Ava and Isabel grow up and start playing together.  There's an 8 month difference between the two (Isabel is older), but they will be in the same grade at school, starting next fall (yikes!!)  They just have such a good time together, and they both love to dress up, tell stories, and apparently, put on shows for any adults in the area!  Isabel kept telling us that the movie would start in 3 minutes, and then Ava would chime in 30 seconds later and say, "Well, how about 4-5 minutes?"  Someone is learning the art of stalling at an early age...

The best thing about going to a friend's house is all of the different toys, and dress up clothes!  These two lovely princesses had a great time prancing around, all sparkly and full of glitter.  When I took their picture, instead of saying "Cheese!" I got a "Princesses!"

This is a hand-me down dance outfit from Isabel's is SO dang cute!  Makes me think I should get Ava involved in dance...

Isabel looked so pretty in this sparkly one!

This one kills me...Ava started to fall out of her shoes, and I managed to take a picture at just the right time.  Start early, kid, even at my age, shoes can still be a challenge!

Evy...not a princess quite yet...but having fun!!

The two little princesses!

And their charming prince - according to Isabel, she married Darren.  Her dad.  Where do they learn those things??

It's been a great weekend...still lots to do, and the sun is finally out!  Better enjoy it before it goes!
